Maybe you can get a medical withdrawal based on your history. Make an appointment to see the dean. I agree with all the advice. And please don’t keep your parents in the dark. It’s worse, becasue you know they will find out. Let them find out from you. Have a loved one with you for moral support when you tell them. Or, maybe even cut and paste this thread into an email. You clearly have a mental illness, whether they believe in it or not. I wish you all the best.
Hugs to you! It can get better, it really will. But first, hard as it may be, you need to bring your parents into this situation. My suggestion would be to talk to them with your therapist. The therapist (or psychiatrist) should be able to make them understand that depression is a real medical condition that has to do with brain chemistry and that medication can improve it.
It can take some time to get the dosage correct. However, the anxiety you are feeling over school, the scholarships and your parents may be making it harder for you to feel better, even if the depression is lifting a bit. You can’t hide this from them for much longer and I think you will feel better once the truth is out.
As others have said, you have a medical reason for what is going on. Perhaps you will need to take the fall semester to work it out, or you may be feeling so much better by August that you want to go back. Your sport is another issue. You will have to decide if you want to keep playing (and so keep your scholarship) or give that aspect up. But either way, it will work out ultimately, with the help of your therapist, doctors and parents.
Just want to repeat advice to talk to a dean and see if, with professional documentation of your illness, you can get a retroactive medical withdrawal that wipes the transcript slate clean. This is the kind of thing that is hard to do when you are depressed and it would be great if you had someone to help you. Summon your energy and speak to a dean.
Not all parents are supportive. Whether madair decides to get the parents involved at this point has to be madair’s decision.
Thank you all for your comments, advice, and caring. It’s really helping me get my mind a bit more organized.
Thanks for posting this! Was getting ready to worry about you
Any one know where to get advice once your son has been dismissed for academic reasons?
