Will your PA state health insurance cover you OOS?
You won’t have the work study income up front, you earn it as a paycheck during the semester.
On the FAFSA there is an income protection amount for dependent students of $6,570 this year. Federal, state and social security taxes are also deducted from income on FAFSA, before 50% contributes to EFC.
But yes, federal work study income gets subtracted from total income on FAFSA.
You also don’t have to pay FICA taxes on that income.
Re the insurance: pa state covers me in emergencies, ik most universities do insurance but they’re way more expensive than market place plans available to me.
Very helpful about the work study and other income, im just trying to avoid my efc going up and digging myself into a bigger hole.
Got my appeal from ursinus today and they took the gap from 11k to 8500. Still not fantastic but more manageable for sure! I think it makes it an option.
Ysu is by far most affordable with almost nothing out of pocket. Pitt Bradford would cost about 5k a year out of pockrt, ursinus 8500 and everything else is 10k+ and not really affordable. Hoping I get unm before may 1.
update - i was finally able to login to loboweb and it says i have been provisionally admitted (probably because they didn’t have my SAT scores, but it says they have since received them). no financial aid but they need my verification worksheet.
Congratulations!
Fingers crossed.
I think UNM>YSU for you due to environment. But both are good choices. Urinusbis good too but they seem a bit out of budget.
If YFU it’d be fr 2 years till you transfer to Bellisario (you’d have to save money for that) or you could stay there all 4 years, it’s better and cheaper than Pitt Bradford, they’re trying to build their honors college so you’ll have lots of opportunities, and it’ll be cheaper than you thought college would be.
If UNM, their school of journalism is excellent so you could stay all 4 years, it’d be an adventure discovering a new part of the country and no winters ;).
really excited about UNM but i’m not seeing the lobo scholarship on the portal anywhere which is concerning me, it says my COA is around 37k. i haven’t received a letter or anything like that and maybe that will change once they put my SAT in the system, but not sure. fingers crossed! UNM is far but if it’s cost effective i’m more than willing, i would love to be free of Pennsylvania winters if i stay at YSU all four years i will probably pursue graduate school.
You have to give it a couple days though.
The scholarship is automatic for stats so thy need your test scores.
At YSU, we’re you admitted to the Honors college already?
Because it means you’d get early registration, living in the top notch honors living-learning community, some small seminars…
thank you! submitted everything i need to UNM today, they said unfortunately there is not an expedite process of any sort but it is possible i could have my aid package by friday. i am visiting YSU as well. i’m trying to make a decision on the assumption that UNM will be affordable, if it is not i will just go to YSU. i’ve ended up left with two very different options.
