Thanks for the update. At least you can feel that you did everything you possibly could do to have an affordable college experience. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
Congratulations on doing everything right on your own - many adults need help with all that stuff.
I’d call Ursinus?
Do keep us updated. But most of all, enjoy your summer!
Ursinus got back to me and said they can’t do more money which really annoyed me sincethey came tome offering to review but it is what it is. I’m making the most of ysu for the first 2 years at least and then will lookinto transferring to a “bigger name” school.
Thanks for the update! I am sure you will do great things at YSU!!
Your good attitude, open mind, and persistence is going to take you far. YSU is not a consolation prize, it’s a stepping stone towards building a life you love.
Go get 'em. A bunch of strangers on CC are totally rooting for you.
I agree with the poster above. You have a lot of people rooting for you.
You’ll do awesome and transfer to Bellisario or another top program.
Get involved in the campus paper right away, join a campaign (Ohio is going to be a battleground state so you’ll learn a lot on the ground and establish good contacts both for political science and journalism + Youngstown is one of the symbols of “rust belt town”), get involved in whatever Honors offers. See if you can find a “good” campus job such as library check out desk or residence desk (when you’re not helping students, you can do homework while still getting paid) and/or a job related to journalism or get involved at the Museum.
I am totally impressed and inspired by the OP. No way my kids would do all of this on their own. You will be very successful in life. Just keep the drive going. Some bigger schools to look into later that give good aid would be Miami of Ohio and Iowa State University.
Good Luck.
I am wishing you the very best, @ACollegeHopeful3. Please keep us all updated as you settle in take college by storm!
Wishing you all the best for your freshman year and beyond!
@ACollegeHopeful3 :
Hello ACollegeFreshman3!
As you know, this whole community here is rooting for you.
How is it going?
Were you able to register for the classes you wanted?
Not too homesick? (it’s normal - you’re away from everyone and everything you know and it’s all unfamiliar…but soon the unfamiliar becomes familiar…so if you’re feeling homesick, hang in there).
Were you able to find a job?
Have you been to the museum of Youngstown’s industrial past? (it’s what I know most about the city… Intersting museum, interesting people. If you ever want to volunteer where you can learn and hear things of use. …)
How’s the Honors college? And honors housing?
Thinking of you, fingers crossed!
@ACollegeHopeful3 I wanted to thank you for sharing your journey and also for putting YSU on our radar because it looks like it may be an affordable and academically appropriate option for a low-income relative of mine. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures!
@ACollegeHopeful3 : how is it going? any update, good or bad?
Yes, I’ve been wondering as well.
