A couple of weeks ago, I received the AP English Language and Literature Department Award from my high school. A friend of mine who also received an award told me she emailed the admissions officer at her top private school she applied to and updated them about the award. I decided that I might as well do the same thing-- thinking that even though it’s not a notable award, it couldn’t hurt to let Tufts, my top school, know. So, I emailed my regional Tufts admissions officer on Tuesday with the update, telling him the name of the award and thanking him for reading the email. However, I have still not gotten an email back-- and admissions officers usually reply quite quickly to students’ emails. Maybe I shouldn’t be expecting a reply this deep into reading season, but I’m still worried. My friend who emailed her officer a few weeks ago received an email back. Granted, she did email them earlier.
Anyway, I know that Tufts reading season is almost over and the admissions officers are getting ready to present applications to the overall committee. Because my officer didn’t email me to confirm that the award info had been noted or added to my file, does this mean that he already rejected me? I know this question seems extremely irrational, as I can’t predict my own chances of getting into a school like Tufts. However, I figured if I would have sent the award info a few weeks ago before my application file had been pulled out, I would have gotten confirmation the new info had been added. Once again, I know I sound neurotic and possibly too freaked out, but this one simple email had induced terrible anxiety that I cannot alleviate. The admissions officers must be swamped with applications, so maybe he didn’t reply because he was so busy. Then again, if my app has been denied already, I definitely wouldn’t get a confirmation email back because I would be out of the admissions process. Could this lack of a reply mean anything, or, once again— am I being irrational?
