i might have too much units..

Hello guys.
i am majoring in Bio at a cc
and i have around 90 units now and i want to take more addition bio classes.
am i taking to many units ??

i am planning to transfer to UCI or UCLA.

and would i be accepted for tag?? with high units

There’s no such thing as having too many units if you’ve only been enrolled in a CC. The only way you can have too many units is if you’ve attended a four year university and are attempting to transfer to the UC’s. I was admitted with over 100 CC semesters (150 quarter) units to both UCLA and UCI as a Bio major, so you’ll be fine. The number of units you have as long as you meet the minimum is irrelevant for TAG. You can’t have too many CC units for TAG either.

Take as many units as you want if you think it’s going to be best prepare your when you transfer. Just be aware that once you accepted you’ll start at your UC with 105 quarter units (70 semester units), regardless if you have more. You’ll get subject credit for all classes meaning they can be used to meet prereqs but you’re capped at having 105 quarter units when you start as a transfer. And just to be super clear, no that doesn’t mean you’ll be rejected if you apply with more than 105 quarter units. It just means once you hit 105, you can’t used any more CC units toward UC graduation unless they’re UC classes.

thank you so much 1 more question.

lets say i have 3.6 gpa with 90 units.
but they are only taking 70 so am i courting the 70 units gpa or the 90??

Wow, sorry for the broken English in the previous response. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I just re-read it lol.

All of your units (so 70+) in UC transferable courses are going to count toward your UC transferable GPA which will be used for admission and fittingly will all count for subject credit when you transfer as I mentioned. To clarify even more, there’s no distinction made between your CC units. So it’s not the case that your first 70 semester units are grouped together and then everything after that is treated in a different way. They just take all of your units as a whole to calculate your GPA and give you subject credit individually for each class. Then you’ll also have a generic 70 semester (105 quarter) units when you start. It’s not as if a specific proportion of your total CC units becomes the 70 units. Some people seem to mistake their first 70 units or last 70 units is what they get credit for, that is not the case.

thank you so much.
so if i take more easy classes it would boost up my gps even higher. is that a good plan to do??

Yes, there’s nothing negative that can happen simply by taking more CC units. If you do well and it raises your GPA it will only help you.

That said it’s only a good plan if you do well in those extra courses. It would be disappointing if you took more and somehow lowered your GPA. So make sure you commit to those courses so that you do well. Good luck.

thank you so much again.
