I might be transferring to lafayette from a larger university. Do you like it? Would you recommend it? Do you know anything about greek life because i would really like to do that too and i hear they throw you into sorority rush the second you get there for the fall of sophomore year!

YankeesChamps09 – From what I understand from my daughter, students are not allowed to participate in rush until the first semester of their sophomore year. This does not mean that you can’t abstain from rush as a sophomore. Some young women do – or they participate in rush but decide not to join a sorority at that time – then decide for whatever reason to rush junior year. So, no, they do not “throw you into sorority rush the second you get there.”

Hey, Im in the same situation… I am thinking of transfering to Lafayette from a larger university … I don’t know how they do rush or anything but I do know if you rush right away soph year I wouldn’t advise it. That is what happened at my school for freshman year and I made a very wrong decision with my sorority… also… for me it forces you to be friends with those few girls or guys in your pledge class and doesn’t give you the ablity to meet other really cool people at the university. Also im a girl but i know for guys pledging is REALLY tough… at least at my school… and im not talking about hazing its just the boys have to be at the house at all hours… they often have to dress nicely or wear a pin ll the time… they have to know each brother personally and often are required to be at the house to clean and stuff… also they have lil competitions to bring the pledge class together and retreats with the fratneraty…and they have a ton of required study hours… plus they have to memorize a lot of things … its basically like taking another credited class… Also boys pledge classes seemed to be smaller fo your forced in with only 10 or 15 people and don’t meet other ppl …

anyways… just wondering… what larger university are you coming from and why are you leaving?

Rush is Fall semester sphmore year at Lafayette. The admin seems to have s strong desire to eliminate Greek Life from campus, but in the mean time it is alive and kicking. Sorority pledging at Lafayette is pretty tame for most houses.

Hey I’m a girl haha just a big yankees fan! I’m transferring from University of Delaware and I’m deciding between Lehigh and Lafayette, it’s a really hard decision. I want to do marketing and Lafayette only offers Business and Economics but I like it better overall! So I have no idea what I’m doing yet! I’m leaving del cause it’s just SO big and there’s no sense of community like there is in a smaller school. My hometown is only 11,000 and the student population here is like 18,000 haha so it’s large. Where are you transferring from?

Sorry about that… idk I just assumed… but yeah im coming from georgia tech which is huge too… There is def a sense of community here but I just decided engineering is not for me… good luck with your decision im having trouble deciding too.

haha no its fine! what schools are you deciding between?
