i miss math competitions

anyone know if they have math competitions for college kids (besides the putnam?) or any other academic competitions, for that matter?

thanks :)

MathCounts was the ****. I loved/love beating kids at things they dedicate their lives to.

Quiz Bowl is still done on the college level, but it's highly competitive. Virginia Tech has a math competition in the fall that other schools can sign up to take. Some schools like Michigan host their own math competitions.

haha once I get to college, I'll be glad to not have my calculus teacher chasing me down and asking me to do math contests anymore!

Take the putnam and you wont miss math contests anymore

Oh yeah, certain schools do the Microsoft College Puzzle Challenge and the Google Puzzle Challenge. Last year Carnegie Mellon, Columbia, Cornell, MIT, Stanford, UIUC, University of Michigan, UT Austin, University of Toronto, and University of Washington did the Microsoft one, which has been going on for about 4-5 years now. Last year was the first year for the Google competition.

maybe the OP should go back to high school

Are you interested in coaching for high school teams? If so, consider getting in touch with your local ARML coach and seeing if you can help out.

whoa that sounds fun thanks :D

...Is a 21 on the Putnam and a 7 on the AIME high enough to coach for a team? Do you have to have qualified for USAMO to be a good coach?

Unless your team does really intense practices, you don't particularly need any qualifications to be a coach for ARML. At my state's practices, we tend to just focus on showing them how the competition works, how to work as a team effectively for the competition, and do practice problems. At the competition, you'll either be a proctor (which requires the ability to read instructions, open up folders, hand out paper, keep track of time, and look menacing during the relay round), or a grader (which requires the ability to read, count, and write).

yaaaaaay :D

Out of curiosity, fizix, which region are you from?

South Florida.
