If you are sure of your desired major, than applying for schools with the best departments/ work environments should be first priority...but in most cases, best schools have best departments.

Also 75% of all college students change majors so going to an all-around good school is not a bad idea.

I think the frenzy is best summed up by this:

"Why do people want to get corporate and business jobs? So they can be evil? "

NO one ever said that............how does having a corporate job result in being evil.....im puzzled
[/quote]

Also, I can be plenty evil without a corporate job, thanks. Especially if I end up as a lawyer or in government!

QUOTE:
"the stereotypical CC opinion... ah well... employers choose kids based on their character and work ethic, not just because of what college they went to... Would colleges really pick a kid who had a 2.0 GPA but only got into yale cuz daddy donated millions of dollars, or would they want someone who went to hopkins but excelled in everything?"

bobmallet1....what a horrible comparison. Hopkins is a good/elite school, espcially if you plan to go to med. school, considering that their med. school is #2 in the nation.

the kids whose parents who are CEOs and Chairmans of Board of Directors get you jobs, not high GPAs. Ivy League is all about meeting people who will help you get farther in life.

I love all the absurd talk about schools that are "better" academically....

kk19131

FYI--its not an absurd talk we're just boiling down to whats more important....prestige or other factors

It is absurd. The way people talk about this and that schools being "better" academically is, largely, nonsensical.... Prestige is one thing, but saying that some schools are purely better than others is silly to me.

well....actually in all honesty there are some schools that are just darn better in every single aspect....I mean its kind of embarrasing to other lower schools but The Pompous Ivy schools do take the Royal positions as Americas best and as much as its annoying we can't hide it! I mean come on, be serious; their swaggers boast excellence in all nature

Uh.... I have no idea what you're talking about.... and it seems that neither do you.....

"in all honesty there are some schools that are just darn better in every single aspect"

-This is NOT true. People need to stop spreading the lie that schools are one-size-fits-all.

not necessarily..........Key word=some schools...not all buddy....wink

Admit what?

You claim that some schools are just better at everything than other schools, and this is simply not the case. All schools don't fit all people, and saying that some are just better than others is quite ignorant. That is, it undermines the complex nature of different colleges. While an elite school may be good for some, it is by no means good for all, and, in that regard can not be "just darn better in every single aspect".

Honestly, much of what you post is suspect.....

I give up.....we're just going to keep going back && fourth...I don't want this to turn into a heated altercation so you take the cake.....YOU WON!...happy now?

"YOU WON!...happy now?"

No. I will be happy when you stop posting things without knowing what you're talking about.

kk

just curious. you are in Northwestern, what state are you from and do you mind posting ur stats?

thanks

I'm from Pennsylvania, and as far as my stats go, knowing that info won't really help anyone. Firstly, I applied to Northwestern like 4 years ago; and secondly, one can easily do a quick search and see the scores a typical Northwestern student has. :)

While it is true that there are some schools are better fits for some people, I'd say there are some schools that are just plain better in some aspects than other schools.

SoAuthentic continues to perpetuate the same argument.

"Their swaggers boast excellence"
"in all honesty there are some schools that are just darn better in every single aspect"
"The Pompous Ivy schools do take the Royal positions as Americas best"

Don't you understand? You have probably not experienced college (I don't know how old you are), and if you have perhaps three schools tops (grad, undergrad, etc) - hardly enough to make this judgment. Your argument is circular, it keeps pointing back to PRESTIGE, and its perceived benefits.

&& The Cow Jumped over the moon..........

THE END!

"I'd say there are some schools that are just plain better in some aspects than other schools."

Aspects like.....? Be sure to say how said aspects are "better", that is, 'quality' not 'quantity'...
