I Need A Roommate For Next Year

Instead of letting UCLA randomly choose me another cruddy roommate, I want to know if there is any way I can find a roommate who is not bi-polar and passive aggressive for next year. I don't want to room with friends because I don't want that to lead in a situation where we'll "de-friend" each other but I really don't want to check off some boxes and get a roommate that is not remotely close to the ones the qualities that I've checked off. I know what you put on your housing application for next year does not matter in terms of who you want to room with but I'm just wondering in advance.

How do I come about finding one that is sane?

Help.

once the room sign up process starts up, you can look at rooms that are partially filled. it will tell you the name and i think the habits (ie clean/messy, early/late sleeper etc"). then go on facebook or myspace and try to find the person. and try to judge from there. or go one step further and IM/email/message them and have a little chat.

i know its kinda creepy and stalkerish, but hey. its your quality of life on the line. i'm sure they dont want an insane roommate for next year either.

if you pick an empty room, then you just have to pray some weirdo doesnt pick your room too.

OR.....
look for friends of friends, or floor mates, or friends' floor mates, or class mates, or lab partners, or whatever and see if you can find someone that way.

i've had bad luck with roommates my two years. well last year's was alright compared to this year's. this guy is messier than a pig wallowing in mud. and hes a poly sci major trying for law school...and im sure you know how opinionated/talkative/annoying lawyers can be. he keeps ranting off about game theory and prisoner's dilemma and im like I DONT CARE THATS WHY IM A SCIENCE MAJOR.

sorry about my tiny rant there. lol...:D

So has the housing application deadline past?

it's the end of this month

Then all you have to do is propose a Nash equilibrium with your roommate.

VTECaddict, I really did not know you could do that. That is so awesome! And I don't care if I'm a quasi-stalker or not, give me a roommate that isn't PMS'ing 24/7 for goodness sakes.

Describe yourself, mnucla.

Female, Business Economics major with Accounting minor, Sophomore next academic year, very clean and tidy, organized, non-smoker, non-alcoholic, does not drink, can sleep with lights on, can do homework with a reasonable amount of noise from laptop, will talk with cell phone outside of the dorm and not inside if more than 1 minute long, does not smell weird, likes watching Friends, The Apprentice, What Not To Wear, and Spongebob Squarepants, NICE person! :)

I feel sorry for you VTECaddict. Seriously, some people should just shut up and clean up.

do guys and girls dorm together ever?

Nope.
Unless you do it illegally.

u can do it illegally? really? waht happens if u get caught

It's not called dorming together, but just "staying overnight". That can happen a lot .. that's why there's a roomate contract!

If you violate the roomate contract, then .. it's up to the people in your room to resolve the issue. Otherwise, the RA is the mediator.

o i c im guessing its just bathrooms at the end of hte hall

So what are the chances of me, a sophomore next year, receiving a single room in a hall? Pretty slim :( ?

And what is the chance of Sproul opening next year?

How did you get into the Business Economics with Accounting Minor program as a freshman? Did you come in with sophomore standing and somehow take Econ 11/101 already?

Oh, I guess I should have wrote Pre-Business Economics Major and Intended Accounting Minor. Sorry for the confusion.

Depends on your priority.

I'd room with you, mnucla, if I didn't have a roommate already... your description sounds just about identical to mine! Major (plus intended minor) too...

Aww sofakingwangsta, I wish you didn't! :(
