I need advice on prerequisites...

I am planning on majoring as a bioengineer but I don't want to spend so much money in those expensive engineering schools just for the prerequisites for the first couple years. Schools like JHU, UPenn, Carnegie Mellon, or Tufts have very high college costs.

Is it a good idea to just start low in non-engineering schools that are a little cheaper? But would that sort of be a disadvantage cause they might not have the courses needed to get ready for bioengineering?

Im sort of confused on how it all works.

most colleges have more or less the same courses for engineering...that is if they are ABET accredited

whats ABET?

fei, does that go for schools that have science majors but dont generally have engineering schools?
