Transferring To an Ivy League

Hey everyone,
I am currently a bioengineering major looking to transfer to Harvard, Yale or MIT in the next year. I was wondering if it would be a compelling academic case (in addition to another reason) if the bioengineering program at my current institution is not accredited by ABET.

Thank You!

It’s compelling in terms of why you want to transfer. It’s not going to in any way “compel” or influence the admissions decision at these particular unis.

I wouldn’t call it compelling, but it is a valid reason. The transfer acceptance rates for these institutions are sub 10% so don’t get your hopes up too high.

it’s more like the low single digits, much lower for transfer than Freshman admits.

Transfering into bioengineering anywhere is tougher than the general transfer admissions stats anywhere, let alone at the schools you list. It’s a “hot” major right now and among the most competitive at any school that offers it.

If you’re concerned that your current school is offering inadequate training, then it would be hard to make the case that it is preparing you to transfer to elite school.

Many state flagships are more highly regarded in bioengineering than Harvard and Yale. They will see you as a prestige hound.

It would be a reason for transfer that does not make sense, since none of Harvard, Yale, or MIT has ABET accreditation for bioengineering or biomedical engineering.

@ucbalumnus @TomSrOfBoston @AroundHere @preppedparent @philbegas @RoaringMice Thank you all for your advice. Just wondering what prestige hound means @TomSrOfBoston, isn’t that an achievement in Dead Rising 3 lol
