Hey there. I am recent graduate of a community college. I applied to about six transfer schools and out of the ones I got accepted to UNC-CH and UA are my top picks. Classes start in the next two weeks and I have to make up my mind soon. I am a Advertising/PR major. Both of the colleges have given me full tuition, but at UNC I would have to pay for my extra summer semester. It is out of state so it would cost me around $15,000. Money is not that big of an issue. My main concerns are the academics and the students who attend the schools.

I know that UNC is one of the best schools in the country, but due to the eight semester rule I will only have 5 semesters to finish my major. I will have to take around 15 credit hours a semester and that worries me because I know that the courses there must be very rigorous. Also, I will not be able to have a minor because of the time limit. If I do not have all my classes done by the time those 5 semesters are done, I am not allowed to finish my degree.

Everything at UA seems much more relaxed and laid back, but I know that the academics are not as good. I have heard some good things about their APR school, but it seems that most people only care about the football team.

Also, I am a native of Alabama, so Chapel Hill is about ten hours away from home, while Tuscaloosa is only three and a half.

The other thing I am worried about is the students. I know a lot of people who go to UA, and I must say some of them are as dumb as a brick. The guys are big jocks that only care about trucks and sports, and the girls are like clones of each other that are all in sororities. I am NOT that kind of person, I am a very liberal, free thinking person, who does not like to drink or party at all.

Lastly, I plan to go to grad school at either UNC, NYU, or UCLA. Could I get into these schools from UA.

So to sums things up: UNC is a better fit for me and my academics, but is far from home and I will be on a VERY strict time limit. UA is close to home, but I don't know I will fit in and also the academics may not be up to my standards.

Please give me any advice you may have to offer about what you think would be best.
