Hi, first time user, i just wanted to know what you guys think. Im currently a junior in high school, ive been a normal student my whole life until i realized that you have to step it up to get into a good college. My first two years in high school i didnt do much, i didnt have the chance to get involved since im always in a different school each year. This year im trying to catch up by taking ap and dual enrollment classes but im lacking in the extra curricular activities and other things that would make me stand out. What should i do to stand out?!!!!!!

Doesn’t really go in this subforum, but…

What are you interested in? Don’t get involved in something you probably won’t be interested in (like many people who indiscriminately join a lot of clubs). Even if it seems awkward to butt in during the middle of the year, join some clubs or student organizations that are relevant to your interests and get involved in those. (If you can’t do that, try doing stuff on your own; I studied math on my own for a while before we had a math club. There are usually resources on the internet.) Try applying to summer programs in your interests; this forum is a good place to find some.

Do as well as you can on the SAT/ACT (and SAT subject tests if you’re applying to some of the more selective colleges). Take the most challenging courseload you can handle without absolutely killing your GPA/spare time. (Though I’m not sure how you might change it this late into junior year…) Make yourself stand out to teachers in both math/science and humanities/social sciences; you’ll most likely need them for teacher recommendations once you apply to colleges. It sounds like you’re doing pretty OK on this part, which is good.

thanks and sorry for posting in the wrong place
