Hi. Here is a list of the schools to which I'm applying: Amherst, Reed, Oberlin, Swarthmore, Haverford, and Bard.

I feel like I can thrive at any of these incredible institutions but my high school is under-funded and a bit mediocre with minimal opportunity so my transcript is not as impressive as it could be. I have a good GPA and good test scores. I've done some interesting extra curriculars... like attend the Congressional Academy for American History & Civics, founded Cheese Club, participated in a documentary about Gettysburg, and helped deliver Christmas presents to children infected/affected by HIV/AIDs.

I think my essays will be key since I love reading and exploring classic literature... Um, I hope that doesn't seem pretensious.

Also, do you think being from the Bible Belt will improve my chances?

Advanced Thanks!

Can you be a little more expansive and specific, like what are your jr and sr classes, gpa, test scores, and further description of extra curriculars? It’ll give everyone a better idea of how to assess your application.

Oh, well… unweighted my GPA is 3.94. I’ve taken all of the honors courses offered at my school and the majority of AP’s along with a college jumpstart course.

Other extra curriculars include: NHS, HOSA, Beta, Swim team, church youth group, full time summer job, blood drive volunteer/donor, food drive volunteer/donor, art club.

Also, I’m unsure how relavant this is but my life has been relatively tragic and I plan on writing about it for my essays. I know I’m trivializing it now but I’m unsure what else to say.

What are your test scores? Also do you have any leadership positions in anything or any evidence of taking a leadership role in things? I’m sorry I’m being a pain, because as it stands, you look like you have quite a nice application and I’m sure you wouldn’t have a problem getting into Bard, but again, scores will help put all of this in another light, as trivial as they are.

My test scores are a bit subpar.

ACT
English: 36
Reading: 28
Science: 26
Math: 25

I think your test scores are probably okay, they come out to a 31 composite, right? I’d say Reed, Oberlin, and Bard are probably match - high-match schools for you, whereas Amherst, Haverford, and Swarthmore are probably mid-reaches. I’d say your geographic location definitely helps and you seem to be one with a knack for writing so your essays are probably fine. The only problem I see is, that I don’t see any bit of your application that really pops and would make an officer remember you. Maybe that’s where your essays can come in. Either way I wish you luck!

Care to chance back?
