I Need Help: Boston College or UCONN Honors

Hey everyone

Over the past few weeks, I have been streesing out about my college choice for next year. I was accepted at Boston College and at UCONN with an invitation to thier honors program. Financial issues are not that great of a factor but Boston College will cost roughly $10,000 more a year for me to go there.

My parents and people I have talked to say that the Honors Program looks really good. However, others have told me that Boston College is no match for UCONN. I've heard issues about safety and lack of things to do at UCONN and that the social life at Boston College is not the greatest.

Please help me out and give me any advice that you may have.

If instate, go to UConn…

You’re right, UConn doesn’t match up to BC. However the Honors Program sounds pretty good, and if you live in-state, the tuition will be even lower for you so it seems like a good choice. At the end, it’s all up to you to decide.

I think the honors program sounds great and you can save 40 Grand. I would probably go that route depending upon what kind of benefits you get. I know some schools have priority enrollment, smaller class sizes, TA sections are led by the Professor and honors dorms along with summer honors courses and/or programs.

I love BC, but I would love graduating with close to no debt more.

I am instate and the cost differential is $10,000 more to go to BC…UCONN will cost around $17,000 and BC about $27,000

I’m thinking that BC might be the better value but am unsure

I personally think BC is overrated. How it is close to NYU in the ranks is beyond me. I would go with Uconn Honors and save your money for a masters. Good Luck

You are talking about $10,000 per year for a total of $40,000 is that right? Does your family have that money or would you have to take out loans? If the answer is that you would graduate with an undergraduate degree and $40,000 of loans I would go to UConn.

Yea…BC would be costing me $10,000 more per year than UCONN and would take out loans. UCONN’s total loans after 4 years would be around $66,000 and BC’s total loans after 4 years would be around $108,000

UConn honors is equivalent to BC, isn’t it?.. UConn is known to have one of the best honors programs in the country… its just as hard to get into UConn honors as it is to get into BC.

Average SAT score for UCONN Honors this year was 1425…average SAT score for BC this year must be around 1340

I never looked at it that way but I guess that’s a fair statement. My main concern is that when it comes to getting a career, Boston College may sound better than UCONN Honors but I could be wrong.

I don’t know if it matters but I want to major in Biochemistry and do Pre-Med.

BC is very homogeneous…white christians…if you are into diversity/not into religion don’t go there

does BC even have a biochem major?

Boston College has a biochem major but UCONN does not. However at UCONN you can make a specialized major. I just posted that incase anyone had any insight about which school’s biochem/medical program is better.

i dont think BC does…did u look it up on their website?..i visited BC and did not like…just my opinion…pretty campus…but overly sickly sweet/religious…also not diverse
