People around me are deciding where they are going to school and I'm starting to get freaked out that I'm so confused. I applied EA to Georgetown and got in, and after my interview and my visit I was sure I wanted to go. But now I'm not so sure.
So here's some background- I want to do anthropology and go into a career in human rights. But I'm pretty open-minded. I'm low-key but I work hard. I'm NOT a partier, although that could change. I guess some would consider me a hipster. I'm trying to decide between Georgetown, Macalester, University of Wisconsin, Emory, And Penn. I still haven't heard from Penn or Macalester but got likely letters from both. Anything to help me decide if I'd be happy with the anthropology program or the social life at Georgetown would make me appreciate you FOREVER.

Well, I think that the social life at Georgetown would be great. DC is an amzing city with lots to see and do. People on this board have mentioned that there's always something to do, whether your into partying, or not.

The academics you can decide for yourself. Here's a link to the Georgetown bulletin, where the anthropology program is described in detail: http://www.georgetown.edu/undergrad/bulletin/collegedepts8.html#sociolo You can see what the required courses are and decide if you think you'll enjoy it.

I also recommend visiting Georgetown. That's how most students make up their minds. Sometimes, the campus will just "click" with you and you'll know that its where you want to go. Hope this helps!

Penn doesn't send out likely letters.

Yah, I've visited, but I visited when it was cold and rainy and they were on spring break, so no one was around, as a result I got pretty much no vibe at all from the campus. But I did fall in love with DC. Thanks for the link, I have checked it out before. I guess I'm looking for more of an idea of what its like from someone who is actually an anthropology major or has taken classes, because that seems like it could really help me to make up my mind. Thanks for the info, though!

Penn sent me a letter that said they were "excited" that I applied. I'm new to CC so maybe that wasn't the right jargon, exactly, to use.

Oh okay. Are you a minorty? (Just because I know that they send out those kind of letters for minority recruitment)

Well, I am a freshman at Gtown and I have a friend majoring in Anthropology and minoring in Justice and Peace Studies. And I know she is having a great time here and has a social justice related internship in DC.

Also I am not a partier, most of my friends aren't partiers, and I know people that aren't. We go to movies, or to one of a zillion restaurants, or to programs in DC, finding something to do will be the least of your worries. Even though over half of the people here are partiers you'll find the ones who aren't pretty quickly because all of them have the same worry as you-that they are the only person who doesn't party on campus.

Also, like every human rights organization has offices in DC and are looking for interns and volunteers so you could be working on your human rights career while studying Anthropology.

Hope that helped!
