I am currently a cc student and i plan to transfer next semester i got accepted to UCM and UCSC. my current GPA is 2.9 but my the end of the semester it should be a 3.0. My major is sociology now i want to know can i survive in the quarter system if i go to UCSC ?
any personal experiences and Honest comment would be much appreciated
please help me !
The pace is quicker from beginning to final on a quarter system, but there is less content and fewer assignments. It’s completely managable. You just have to remember to stay focused.
@gabbi1234 - my D is a communication major/business minor at UCSD. She transferred last fall from a cc. She said the first quarter was hard just getting used to the pace and the amount of reading assigned for her major. All of her TA’s said that you just have to skim some readings as there is more than you can possibly get through. She is surviving quite well, but would agree with the statement above that you have to remain focused.
As a semester student at UCB, I can only say quarter system = 3 sets of midterms and 3 sets of finals. It sounds like pressure to me, plus semesters have a dead week before finals. But I’m sure it’s like anything - once you’re used to
It, it should be ok. I would suggest easing in the first quarter and using support from the transfer center and writing labs.
