I live in maine and I need a safety school for down south. I'm a B student with 1820 SATS and good EC's. I just need a school with these requirements:

Good Biology or Premed Program
Has D1 Football or Basketball
Is not very expensive for out of state students

How about the University of Alabama? The 2008-2009 budget for an out of state student living in the dorms (including parking!) is just over 13,000...an amazing bargain.

UAB - University of Alabama - Birmingham. meets all three criteria.

You will probably find oos to be cheaper than Maine In-state - or close. It is also not far from Tuscaloosa so you can be a 'Bama football fan. They are D1 basketball though

Wouldn't attend a school in the south myself. Although you should probably look at a few schools in Virginia, Carolinas, and really far south to Georgia.
University of Georgia
University of Virginia
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill
Also there are many good schools in Washington D.C, but are probably private or small. Some people consider it south, some say northern.

I would take UNC Chapel Hill off that list Coolbreeze...you pretty much need Ivy type stats to get in out of state. UVa would probably be a tremendous reach as well.

Look at the University of South Carolina-great school, beautiful campus, beautiful city, and good athletics. Hot girls as well if that factors in at all.

Take UVA off that list as well - it is very very selective for OOS.

University of South Carolina could be a great school for you. If you have decent SAT's - over 1250 then you might qualify for a nice OOS merit scholarship. They have great football and basketball teams and a medical school as well.

Remove Georgia from the above list as well due to the Hope Scholarship that keeps many of the best Georgia students home. Your SATs are a bit low for a non-resident applying to Georgia. No chance at all for UNC-Chapel Hill or for Virginia as an out-of-state applicant. Although not in the South, schools like the Univ. of South Dakota, North Dakota & Wyoming have trouble attracting students. One or two of these schools has slashed non-resident tuition to attract applications.

University of South Florida. In Tampa. Roughly $24,800 for tuition, fees, room and board for OOS students. Close to the water. Pretty good biology department. In my estimation the best football program in the Big East, although that is not saying much this year.

You may also be able to try
Clemson University
North Carolina State University- Raliegh
University of Alabama
University of South Carolina-Columbia

Again these are not schools I would select, but are schools that many have.
