I need help with an academic situation

Hello,

Currently, I am in AP Macroeconomics and my performance is at best mediocre. I’m sitting at a low B. I am one of those high achievers and I asked my counselor if it would be possible to take regular economics online because if I did I would surely get an A. Unfortunately, she said no, but I was hoping on Monday if I could change her mind. My question is this: should I try to fight to take economics online and get an A, or should I stay in AP Macroeconomics and get a B? I would also like to factor in that in the Spring of 2020 I would like to transfer to a different college, would a B have any effect?
Any response would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

This is confusing. Are you taking AP courses as a college student?

When you apply as a transfer student to a college, the most important thing will be your college transcript. The grades you got at college. For competitive college admissions, the reason for wanting the transfer can make a difference too. Colleges are more partial to students who show a deep interest and depth in a subject that can be met better at another school rather than simply disliking current situation .

Your Econ grade in high school is not going to have much of any effect on transferring. At this stage, if you are a senior in high school heading to college this fall, a B- in the course isn’t going to get you rescinded. If you get a certain score on the AP exam, some colleges will give you college credit for the course.

At this point, the course should not be a big issue to you beyond getting your B-.

I’m also a bit confused. At this point you don’t have that many weeks left to the school year I’m guessing. You need to look at the policy for your school but for many schools this would be considered too late to switch. I’m sure guidance has the ability to make an occasional exception with good cause but earning a B which is above average probably isn’t one. I would doubt that one B would prevent you from college admission.

Can you hire a tutor to help you? If not, there must be online resources to help you with the material.

It’s the mediocre teacher’s fault that you are getting a B?

If I understand, you have been accepted to a university for Fall 2019 that you are already planning to transfer out of. Any new college is going to care about the grades you attain while you are at college. It’s going to look very odd at this late date to switch into a regular online Econ class. If your teacher is mediocre, then prove yourself by getting a great score on the AP exam. At least then you will hopefully have something useful to use at your next college. There are many excellent study guides that will help you get a high score on the AP exam. Good luck.

Finish the AP class as strongly as you can and move on.

Stay in AP Statistics. It doesn’t matter now if you only get a B.

The belief that the online grade would automatically be an A when the grade at school is a B makes no sense.

No, sorry to confuse. I’m just saying that when I go to college I hope to transfer in the spring of 2020.

It’s nearly May 1st. Aren’t you a senior who will be graduating in a few weeks? If you drop a course it will have to be reported to whatever college you’re planning to attend. I don’t think you want your GC telling them that you dropped an AP class because you weren’t going to get an A. Go study for your final and do the best you can.

I’d rather have a B- on my transcript than a W, because some admissions officers might see the W and, without another explanation, jump to the conclusion you were withdrawing because you were failing, which looks worse than a B.

@Groundwork2022 i would like to make note that if I drop the class a W will not appear on my transcript.

Why do you want to transfer when you clearly haven’t even started college yet? That makes no sense. You are grasping at straws. Finish the course and get a four or five on your exam. Problem solved.

  1. What is wrong with a B?

  2. If you are already accepted to college, what difference does a B make?

  3. Even if you plan to transfer, they will be more concerned with your college grades rather than your HS grades. If they do look at your HS grades, a B in AP is no big deal.

  4. Spend the time you are worrying about this studying for the AP Econ test. Get a 4 or 5 on the test and you will get credit at just about any college.

@Lindagaf

I know it’s way to earlier, but I just said that in case I doing like my current college that I want to transfer in case it were to happen.
