I need help with college decision.

I am a 12th grade student at a private school that I have attended my whole life and I'm not sure if I should save money by going to a community college or just go straight to college. The only con of going away to college is the money but there are several cons for going to a community college such as not being in the atmosphere to find out what career I want. I make mostly A's and a couple B's and am interested in Health Sciences such as nutrition and wellness and possibly physical therapy. Please post advice on what would be best for me to, to either stay at home for a couple then years and transfer or if I should go straight to college.

First of all, should I assume that you have already applied to some colleges and been accepted?

If you don’t have scholarships coming your way, transferring after two years at a CC is a great financial option.

Yes, I have been accepted to Bridgewater, Liberty, Roanoke, and Virginia Western the community college. I am looking towards a degree in Health Sciences and am not sure if it would be smarter to go straight to a college now or go to a community college. I visited Bridgewater and the counselor told me that it may be smarter to go straight to a college as a freshman to be accepted into a program of study because I may get behind and have to stay for an extra year if I transfer a year or two later. The price of colleges is one of the main factors in this decision.

Going to a four year college is usually better, but only if you can afford it. Have you applied to any of the Virginia public colleges and universities? They should be a lot cheaper than the three private schools that you mentioned. You can get a good education at a community college. It will help if you have an idea about which school to transfer to, so that you can check that most if not all of your credits will transfer. Virginia seems to be doing a lot to encourage the community college to public four year college track. If you try community college and don’t like it, you can transfer. There is no rule that you have to stay for two years.
