It is due in 5 days. The reason I did poorly was because I am going through depression and went through suicidal thoughts. I went to the school with 2 different counselors and it didnt help( I went around a year ago and than again in October). I also went to the doctor in November and told him about my depression and he referred to a psychiatrist with terrible reviews , I never went. I recently started going to therapy around a month ago and I actually like it. The only documentation I have is a letter from my therapist basically stating that I have anxiety and depression that is affecting my acedemic performance and I’m working on it by attending weekly therapy.
The only part of my letter I am not sure about is when I’m explaining my depression and I wrote:
" …I admit I have been having a hard time in school for the past few semesters and I dont mean to make excuses for my poor academic performance. The symptoms started around 2 years ago and grew stronger as time went by. I started feeling a strong sense of hopelessness. I stopped hanging out with friends, I spent most of my days in bed. I found it hard to focus in school, in work, and to complete simple daily task as well. As a result my grades began to suffer. I was in denial and did not take any of my symptoms seriously. I thought I could handle it but I was wrong. I understand now that I should have made an effort to treat or better my depression…"
This is the body of my appeal statement but I’m not confident about it especially the part where I give examples of my depression. There more serious examples like my suicidal thoughts and anxiety attacks but idk if i should include that. I am thinking of taking it out "stopped hanging out with friends " part. Also idk if i should include that i have tried using the school counseling resources before.
I think you need fewer details on your depression and all the things you tried that didn’t help…and more specific information on what you’re doing now to address it so you don’t have the same problems if you are reinstated.
Also consider if you are ready to go back to college full time at this point. Do you need some time to focus on your mental health? I recommend you speak to your therapist about this.
You only started counseling a few weeks ago. A month isn’t very long. What is your counselor saying about returning to school so soon?
Take some time off from school. You aren’t in a position to do well there. Get your life in order, become more responsible and mature a little.
Dismissal doesn’t happen right away. You typically get a term on warning, then one on probation and then it’s dismissal. What did you do for that year and half when you knew you weren’t performing up to standards? How is what you are doing now different? I think the time off might help more than just continuing down a path that doesn’t seem to be working.
