hey, i'm a new guy around here and i would appreciate some help. basically, UCSC is the only school i applied to because i'm more of a state-bound person and i'm probably one of the dumbest people on the site, lol. anyway, I applied to UC santa cruz and today i talked to about 4 or 5 people that got accepted into UCSC already and i immediately panicked (sp.)

once again, i'm not like the majority of people who ask for help who are usually modest students who are guaranteed their dream school.

here are my stats:

UC GPA: 3.55

SAT I Math: 540
SAT I Verbal: 490

SAT II Math: 600
SAT II Writing: 580
SAT II US History: 520

for the record, i'm an arab/muslim/palestinian but i was born and raised in san francisco california.

--several hours of community service
--barely any clubs joined
--i thought my essay was passionate and superb
--applied as an undeclared business major

and does anyone know how they determine the order of admission? is it based on how remarkable an applicant is? or is it in alphabetical order by last name or is it completely random? because everytime i log onto my.ucsc.edu i get the dreadful:

Your GPA is exactly last year's average, SAT was 1160, 90% were in top 10%. You could go either way, hope you had a great essay! Hope your major is not impacted.

i got my acceptance online yesterday and in the mail today. I had a 3.13 as a transfer student-- you seem to right on the fence... its hard to say if you're in or not. It all depends on the essay--- 80% of the applicants got in last year with * Average high school GPA 3.48
* Test scores SAT verbal scores over 500 79%, SAT math scores over 500 84%, ACT scores over 18 91%, SAT verbal scores over 600 40%, SAT math scores over 600 42%, ACT scores over 24 53%, SAT verbal scores over 700 8%, SAT math scores over 700 6%, ACT scores over 30 7%

every year the % goes lower and the standards get higher... i'd say... you're right on the cutoff---- but hey... i'll give you the affirmative action and say you're in. You're lucky you arent white/american.... doesnt our system just suck!
