I need Match schools!

Hi, I have several colleges in mind, but I'm afraid that I won't get into most of them. So can you guys give me some match schools that are "prestigeous" or well-known and that I probably would get in? Thanks!

My stats are:

SAT Verbal 630, Math 790 Writing 670.
My English scores are not strong at all, although English is not my first language. I will be retaking the test, and I hope I will get above 700 in all three sections.

SATII - MathIIC 800, Japanese 800, lowest is 740.
Unweighted GPA: 3.98, weighted 4.45.

Not an US citizen. Lived in China and Japan, fluent in Chinese and Japanese. Planning to study more languages. Lived in the U.S. for 4 years.

Not many AP classes; I've only taken 3. Got 5 on all 3 of them. Also, I haven't taken as many honors classes as my school has to offer. (All my friends have taken like 15.) I've only taken 5 in fact. But I'm taking more next year, with 4 AP classes and 1 honor.

3 A+ in Junior year, one in AP chem, one in Hon pre-cal, and one in Lv1 French 1 (just starting French). School is public, but pretty competitive in the area. Each year, about 5 to 10 out of 400 students get into Harvard.

Some community service, but not much leadership. No sports, no music:

2 years of TA at local Chinese school (including award for good service)
hospital aid and office aid at an hospital (2 years; including award for good service)
Volunteer at Children's summer program (30 hrs)
4 years of Culture Club, going to be secretary in September
NHS - booksale, peer tutoring; Math team; Amnesty international
into arts, drawings were shown in BC, local art society, and Japanese newspaper (although all of those drawings were never given back to me and I can't make a portfolio out of them); drawing was used as cover of Student Directory

Awards:
Certificate of Honor on the National French Contest
National Honor Roll; PSAT high scorer; Who's who among high school students; Who's who's scholarship semi-finalist; The national society of high school scholars, Student award in English as a Second Language

Work experience: babysitting, tutoring (not much though)

Harvard summer school this summer.

Not very good at writing... (don't know what will happen with the essays or the recommendations)

what are your reaches?

umm... not sure yet... any suggestions?

Uh, I can recommend some New England match schools. Boston College, Northeastern, BU, UMass Amherst (their honors college). If you're interested in tech, try RPI and WPI -- both are v. respectable.

From my classmates' acceptances, you'd be in the zone for William and Mary, Texas uh... A and M? (fughedigbbity!), Tufts, Colby.

What is A and M?

Do you think I have a chance getting into Emory? Is Emory better or William and Mary better?

Emory ranks higher and W&M (which is a public school in my state) has a reputation for being a tough school.

also W&M is a public state school which might cause problems since you're out of state.

and arguably you could say UVA is more "prestigious" than W&M.

one of my friends last year got into Emory, and his stats were at a similar level to yours. but you aren't a US citizen which would probably make the admissions process harder. and also: "we do not offer need-based aid to international students", so if you don't get into the honors program (very tough) and can't pay the $40,000+ per year... they probably won't admit you.

A&M would be "Agriculture and Mechanics" but don't worry, it's not a farm college :). nowadays it's just a regular Texas public university, quite good in fact. affiliated with a few Nobel Prize laureates :)

Thanks ugen!

Actually, I forgot to mention that I'm a permanent resident. So hopefully the schools will count me better... I think I'll consider W&M, Emory, and UVA.

How about Vanderbilt? Is Vandy better than Emory? I know it also depends on personal taste, but do you think Vandy is a "better" place than Emory?

Also, what do you think of my chances of getting into one of the Ivies, like Cornell?

Also, what do you guys think of my list?

Columbia
Cornell
Northwestern
Tufts
BC
Emory/W&M/UVA
NYU
BU
Case Western
U Mass

Is there too much of a gap?

I chose Vandy over Emory (and Cornell) for social fit. [I'm from NY].
