Harrybagatestes: Thanks...I guess? I appreciate your opinions, but I'm not "filled with resent." Like I said before, I would never bring that experience up in an interview, essay, etc. Also, although I agree that being Asian will not help in the admissions process, I think that I am more different than similar to the stereotypical Asian. Okay, I have good grades and play the violin- but I am also on two cheerleading squads (one competitive All-Star squad, another for school), do a lot of volunteer work, play lacrosse, etc. I don't think that I'm the one-dimensional person that you're making me out to be.
*I am more than willing to accept criticism that is valid and constructive. Harry, I will keep your comments about the importance of essays/recs in mind. Don't feel like you have to respond to this- I'm only writing it as an explanation for others who might help me with my chances.

P.S. Harry, I don't ice skate, and I never said I was interested in biomedical sciences...but that was random lol

I some experience that might be relevant, as for your research being Siemens Westinghouse worthy, and you submitting it, I'm not sure it matters if you submit it. I did a chunk of loosely related research on the changing properties of polymers when exposed to radiation, my results were all but complete failure so I didn't submit the project. In my interview on campus my research came out and the interviewer was really impressed (this was before Westinghouse deadline and I still didnt submit...) I wrote one of my essays predominantly on this, I listed it as an extra curricular under independent research (mine may have been a little more "go it alone" than yours but I had to have help with the radiation so..) anyway it should suffice to say that I got in Early this year and didn't try for Siemens Westinghouse just show interest in science, as for the female Asian thing hurting you well... you should have chosen chemistry, bio is for losers any way (jk) I am a W/M (not as bad but close) and, in all honesty embodying a stereotype should be fine if you are the best. I feel like we are in a dog show and they look at us solely based on the standards of our breeds not our over-all qualities.

I hadn't read your reply to Harry about not being into biomed, but for all those who are my crack about that overcrowded hackneyed field stays.
(Med/ Doctor is cool, just diversify preMed doesn't=biomed)(I think)

Hey guys...

I just got my SAT scores back- 2290 (750 CR, 740 M, 800 W). Do you think it's worth retaking so I can get the 2300+? Or is 2290 good enough for Dartmouth? Please help, this is my first-choice college!!

It's not good.

It's EXCELLENT! Don't retake it.

2290 is amazing. good enough for any college from what I understand.

question, what were you scoring on practices? haha im taking the SAT in april and dont want to get my hopes up too high

lol thanks, guys.... axman319, I got exactly what I expected (on my original post), on my practices I was getting in the 2200 range (From high to low), but I couldn't break 2300. Ugh I hate those last 10 points lol

Oh, and one more question...does an 800 writing even count for anything? Or do schools only look at CR and Math?

do NOT retake it! that's amazing! i only got a 2160 and i still got into dartmouth.

Yeah I second all the above--I took them once, got a 2170, and got in.

well, i think harry's point was that it is more difficult if you're an asian
