I need REALISTIC suggestions - Please.

Academics:

Going to a California Community College right now.

GPA 3.63
Class Rank: top 5%
IGETC - All done

Extracurriculars:

Honor Band
Musicals
Journalism/Literary Magazine
Phi Theta Kappa

Leadership:

College Student President
Board of Trustees

Volunteer/Service Work:

Volunteer Churches

Volunteer for local Campaigns

Honors and Awards: Dean's list
Invitation to Carnegie Hall for performance

Work:

Working as a tutor in my subject

Subjects: Poli sci

College Summer programs: Took classes at UCLA with an A and A- (to fulfill Pre-reqs not offered at my college).

I know that I want to try for UCSD and UCLA but I need other realistic suggestions. I want to go as high as I can - but I also don't want to be rejected everywhere I apply.

Also planning on interning with Local District Attorney office in Winter and applying for DC internship in Summer.

What is your budget?

Family has been saving for college for a long time - my budget is sufficient enough for most schools.

Bump, any help really appreciated! I know I want to transfer but I feel undecided on where.

What do you want to do? What is your planned major?

Just going off the info given, maybe Santa Clara? Do you want to stay in CA?

I would like to stay in CA or go to Washington D.C my Subject, or major is political science. Thank you so much for your suggestion!

For DC, try American U or GWU. Georgetown for a reach, since you are top 5%.

Bump - anyone else? thank you.

I think you have a good shot at both UCSD and UCLA. You might look at USC, University of Chicago, and Northwestern also. I know the last 2 are not necessarily in the areas you are interested in but both would be good options academically.

Well thank you for the recommendations. Anyone else? I mostly want to know if I’m on track “my chances”. And if there are any schools I should be looking at as more realistic academic options.

Just nee a little bit more input to make a good decision.

If you look up the Common Data Set for each school, you can see the transfer acceptance info. That will help you get an idea of how competitive they are. Transfer acceptance rates are often very different from freshman ones (sometimes higher, sometimes lower).

U of C and Northwestern seem like really random suggestions for this student, and not just because of location. I seriously doubt a 3.6 GPA at a CC is going to bring admission to U of C. And neither is particularly strong in political science…

That’s why I need more input - I wish I could get into U of C lol. I knew that was not a realistic suggestion. Thank you.

Considering your stats, look into Willamette. You’d be a competitive applicant there and it’s quite good for politics (with lots of possible internship at the State Capital where the college is located).
If your family can afford close to COA, that could help you.
