I need SAT Score Advice! Help!

Hey everyone,

I'm planning to apply ED to Duke in November. I have taken the SAT I, and I didn't do well. I received an 1870 (630CR 580M 660W). That's not good, so I'm retaking in October. I'm expecting a 2100+, so hopefully I get that. As for the Subject Tests, I just checked my scores, and they were p i s s poor. 570 in World History and 560 in Math I. That's horrible. My standardized test scores are the only major flaw in my application. I get straight A's. I'm involved in a hell of a lot of extra curricular activities, and I write really good essays. But my SAT score is my main concern. On the Duke website, it says that November scores might not get there on time. Should I retake my subject tests again? Maybe in Lit instead of World History? Or should I just focus on my SAT and get the highest score possible? I honestly do not know what to do. That's why I'm here. Hopefully you guys will be able to guide me in the right direction for senior year.

Thanks.

I’d focus on your SAT 1. The subject do the next month, but your first SAT is what they’re really going to look at.

I’m sorry, but if your received a score of 1870 how are you already expecting a score of 2100+? Have you self studied or practiced with a tutor since taking the SAT?

Hate to play devil’s advocate here but You have to be realistic when guessing future scores. My ACT was the only thin holding my applications back. I spent $500 in private tutoring last summer and my score went up by very little.

Still apply ED to Duke but make sure you have a lot of match schools and safety schools. Do not put all your money on Top 20 schools and not apply to any schools that are actual matches (not saying you are doing this, just a word of caution).

I apologize. “Expecting” was the wrong word. I mean that I’m hoping for a score of 2100+
