I am junior 6 months away from my senior year I have 3 more chances to take the SATs I have never taken it before. I am planning to take for my first time on June 02, 2018. I took my first SAT practice test today and did terrible and gotten a 1150. I have 3 months now. I am somewhat okay with Math I feel with enough practice I will be fine. But, when it comes to English I am terrible reading doesn’t interest me, I lose track and just start getting in to my mind while reading something and the reading section for me is a disaster. Writing part I feel I can handle. I currently own - Erica Meltzer Reading - College Panda Math Book and plan to buy Erica Melzter Grammer. I am really openminded and a fast learner I plan to thourougly go through these 3 books, take notes and take 10 practice tests before June. What other book do I need if any? Any tip or strategies to maximize my results? I am really lost my friends are all getting 1400+ I am really worried they have been preparing since 9th grade I never started to.
Number one, relax. You have time, you are smart, you can do this.
Number two, I know this is painful, but pull out that test. Look at the questions that you missed.
Is this one of the official SAT practice tests? There is a guy who has done video explanations of each of the problems on the released SATs, 1600 io. You can look him up online. He’s very crisp, his explanations may help.
If he doesn’t help, there is Khan Academy. Also a very good resource.
Reading may not be your best method of receiving and processing information, so just having more books may not do you any good. Try some youtube videos of the particular things you got wrong and see if that helps.
The best thing to do to improve your reading is to read high quality writing. Find a subject that interests you and read about it. Look for newspaper articles (except for The Guardian, their editors are terrible), books, and magazine articles. Stay away from blogs and reddit and bulletin boards for a while, we have no editors and we do not always write proper SAT English. Some are further away than others.
And relax. You have time, you are smart, you can do this.
