I need some advice about SAT!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I’m currently a junior,
and since I’m practically new to SATs, I have so many questions.
It seems that alot of people here are experts at SAT
So guys!!! help me out!!! :)

I started studying for the Jan. SAT from the winter break, so, I studied about 2-3weeks now. And I know that I’m not ready for the Jan. SAT. Should I just take the test as a practice? Should I cancel the test after I take it? (I have a tendency to get nervous when I go to take a new type of test. So, maybe it’s best to just get familiar with the real test setting??)

I read that the new policy in collegeboard applies after March of 2009. Does that mean that if I take the Jan. test, I need to send it to the colleges?

I heard that although the policy allows you to choose the score that you want to send, there are some colleges that requires you to send all the scores. Usually, what type of colleges are these, are they private? state schools? Can you give me examples?

So… if I take the march exam, which means that I have a bit more than 2months to study, Can you suggest me an efficient way to prepare?
What I was planning to do was:
-for CR, I’ll be using the Direct Hits and RR that everyone was talking about here (it seemed that it helped other people alot) and solve a section a day (or maybe a passage a day… I’m not sure… how much should I do?) on school nights and try to do more during the weekends. I’m gonna use the bluebook and barrons, and maybe Princeton. In addition to that I’m gonna try to fit in around 30 minutes everyday to read a magazine or newspaper like Economist or New York Times. (Some people told me this is a waste of time if I have only a few months to study… is it true?)
-for Writing, I’m just gonna use the bluebook and barrons again… any other suggestions? I need help with identifying idiomatic expressions, subjunctives, and tenses…
-for math, I’m just gonna use the same books again: bluebook and barrons.

I’m not sure if doing this way would guarantee 2300 in March though.

I took a practice exam and got CR 650 M700 W630
I want to raise it to CR700 M800 W800 or more, but I’m not sure if that’s possible with all the school work that I have to do.

Any advice would be great thanks :)

Oh yeah... and would it be okay if I use the Barrons book that was published around 2 years ago? I already have it at home and I don't want to buy a new one. And how is the Barrons 3500? would it help me?

Dont let the SAT get to you. Give it in jan. try as hard as you can. you can always give it again a few months later. make sure you do as many real papers as possible in addition to the online course ones and the college board book ones.
yah it would be al right. they hardly ever change anything.
for writing try to read as many twelve essays as u can. there are some good ones at spark notes but there used to be a word doc of cc students who got twelve.it was a nice collection.
Practice.

barrons: NO
Collegeboard: yes
Princeton: yes

do not do barrons....!!

Stanford is one of the college that wants to see all of the test scores

No, if you haven't started studying, I do not recommend you take a test cold turkey just to see how you do. It's mostly a waste of money, because you would be spending about $60 (is that the cost of the test?) for a QAS when you could still be doing tests out of the BB. Get the BB and the OC, and practice those first. It's really a much better deal ($5 on Amazon for 8 tests, $60 for 6 tests for OC).

No, you don't have to send it to colleges, but I heard that some colleges are not accepting score choice. As I said above, you'd be much better off practicing before you take the test.

I think a couple of Ivies... don't know if there's any more.

YOU ARE MAKING A BIG MISTAKE!!! if you haven't written in Barron's and PR yet, you can still probably sell it on ebay. The BB is a must, and you should check out gruber's for math. For CR, reading will help, but you will need to take practice sets to get a feel for the problems. Check out mysterytutor as a free resource, it helps a lot. DO NOT USE PR OR BARRON'S.

hope that helps
