OK you guys, I'm a junior and I've got all the courses I need to graduate EXCEPT: final year of English, final year of Social Studies/History, and a final year of Phys Ed.

For math I've taken up to Precal, but I think I'll stop here. It's really not my stronghold, and I'm not planning on getting a math-based major.

So here's what I'm thinking:
English Lit
Gov/Eco
AP Psychology
P.E
Physics
Off-Period (Yes, this has raised some eyebrows, but I want a little more time to study and do extra-curriculars my senior year)

I'm a little worried that I'll only have 1 weighted class next year. Colleges mostly look at grades 10-11, but will they frown upon this easier schedule?
Should I take AP Economics instead of gov/eco? I'm a little reluctant about that... I like history, just not the economical part of it.
My sciences have been pre-AP Biology and regulars Chemistry. Would an advanced Chemistry count as a third year or should I go with regulars Physics?

I think it's better to maintain a strong schedule for senior year. An admissions officer who visited my school once said that high school is like a piece of music where the senior year is like the brilliant encore, not a lacklustre performance.

I'm not sure what you mean by Advanced Chemistry, but if it's just like Honours Chem (basically a more "rigorous" version of Chem 1), I'd stick with Physics. I think you should not take an off-period, but instead take a chill elective or something because like you already mentioned, off-periods really, really raise eyebrows so it might be good to take an elective that doesn't have much work instead.

Also check the websites of the colleges that you're looking at, more and more schools want four years of the core subjects (English, Math, Science, Social Studies) so it might work to your benefit to take a fourth year of Math during the off-period.

Thanks for the reply Agneisse.
I just found out that advanced chem is indeed a second year weighted course in Chemistry, so I'm leaning towards that. Also, you make off-periods seem much more sketchy than I previously thought that I'm now having second thoughts...which sucks because I was looking so forward to that free period! If I did fill it up though, it would be with a course I would enjoy and do well in, so this rules out math.

actually, my counselor said if you have a strong, rigorous course load colleges don't care if you have off-roll.

Are off periods common at your school? At my school tons of juniors and seniors have them, even the overachievers. If a lot of people do off periods, then it probably won't look that bad.
