So I am planning on taking the sat in June, after already taking the act, I want to boost my score.
I have been out of school for a while and am a little rusty with some things.
I didn’t think I would be up to applying to highly selective schools, but during practice tests I am scoring between 1460-1600, so I am thinking I might try and apply to some selective schools that have my program.
I was traversing some websites of my reach schools and saw that many require sat subject tests.
Now I am putting 100% of my time just practice for the sat so I don’t know if I have room for subject tests. (Not to mention the funds and the convince of it all.) I did take the act w/ writing which can be done in lieu of the subject tests, but my act score is no where near selective school level.
Should I just email the universities and ask about their policies for special circumstances.( I have other things going on and being out of school for a while.)
Or if I apply should I just send my above average/but not amazing act along with my sat.
I hope this makes sense and please be kind with your responses. I graduated a while a go so I don’t have a consuler to turn to.
I think you should call some admissions offices of schools you are considering and ask them what they think, especially since you have been out of school for so long. If they still say that your SAT IIs are required, the ACT is your best bet. Take some courses online or get a tutor, and try to aim for a score in the 30s.
They won’t commit to a question like that, though. They will say that admissions is holistic, blah, blah. I’d consider targeting schools that don’t require subject tests, honestly. You do have a couple of shots in the fall, but you may be wanting to bring up your regular SAT then. And subject tests don’t always go that well the first time – sometimes you want a second shot at those as well. I think one thing you need to realistically evaluate is how competitive you are going to be anyway for those reach schools. They are usually looking for top HS grades, and really strong EC commitments of some kind.
ACT do not cover SAT subject test scores, if you take the SAT this june, you can take your sat subject tests in September or October, which you will still have time to submit with your college applications. SAT subject tests scores are what differ you from other applicants … GOOD LUCK
Math II you should be able to do without any prior preparation and get a solid score, assuming you know math fairly well. At least, from my experience, all my friends and I got 800s without any prep.
You can take subject tests in August or October. Choose your two top subjects and prepare well.
