Hello everyone, my name is Luke.
While I’m not trying to brag, I believe I have a decent resume. I have lots of specialty engineering courses through my high school, and I established the drama department at my school that now has over 130 members. Alongside that, I have other awards and etc. I took the SAT for my second round recently and got a 1380. Im looking at schools such as U.C. Berkeley, Cornell, Princeton, California Polytech, and etc. A lot of these schools recommend SAT Subject Tests. I was wondering that since I only have one more SAT test date before applications, should I retake the SAT or take subjects and remain at my 1380. Thanks in advance!
Personally, I’d suggest subject tests, especially if you have a decent idea of what you want to study. If you know what you want to major in, take the subject tests in those fields and really show off your strengths. I’d only retake the SAT if you’re pretty confident that you could significantly bring up your score.
Honestly you need to do both because 1380 won’t cut it. Take something in August and something in September or take the SAT subject tests and the ACT.
Retake the SAT, because you might need a better score for many of those schools and as you said, the school do not require the SAT Subject.
Agree that your current 1380 is low for the schools on your list. But not having SAT II tests will be an issue as well. The schools on your list currently are all reach schools for pretty much everyone and at this moment with your AT score for these schools and possibly no SAT II scores the colleges you listed will be a very tough to get into. Google the common data set for each school, look in Section C and you can get a sense of the average SAT score by school.
A bit of unsolicited advice. You need to seek out and apply to a group of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable and that you can be happy at. Expand your horizons.
Thank you so much everyone. I found the money to take both!
