Yeah… I can’t do that…

HafsaRox, you have said that you couldnt wait to leave Pakistan. Guess you dont like it much over there either.

You say: *Penn is a dump *and elsewhere talk about excessive crime. Is your city, Karachi, really so much better than Philly? According to Wiki:

*Karachi faces challenges that are central to many developing metropolises, including traffic congestion, pollution, poverty and street crime. These problems continue to earn Karachi low rankings in livability comparisons: The Economist ranked Karachi the fourth least livable city amongst the 132 cities surveyed and BusinessWeek ranked it 175 out of 215 in livability in 2007, down from 170 in 2006.
*
You seem to come from a privileged background and were protected from the problems of Karachi. Now urban problems may seem too close and too unattractive.

You have also said *I am fairly sure I would be happy no matter where I end up, regardless of whether it was my first or last choice. *

Guess not.

Transferring to a much smaller, more leafy, sheltered school may solve all your problems. I hope you do transfer, and soon.

You are dismissive of anyone offering a positive view of Penn and Philly, claiming they all work for the admissions office. You say the majority of the freshman class is pretty miserable right now. I think youll find that at Penn, you cannot make wild allegations and get away with it.

Penn’s incredibly bureaucratic. Most large schools and many smaller ones are. Can you give some of the more egregious examples?

I was accepted here. I decided to accept the offer without hearing the opposing view-points because none were available at that time, and I regret that.

And why didnt you have opposing viewpoints? My goodness, it couldnt be easier to find out about Philly online. Lots of folks find Philly gritty. But West Philly, near campus, has some of the most beautiful urban homes Ive ever seen. And if youve got a half a million dollars, you cold buy one. But nothing to do in Philly? Have you been to South Philly, Chinatown, the Reading Market? Tons of fabulous ethnic restaurants in West Philly. Sports, theater, jazz clubs.

And right here in this forum there are plenty of people who dont blindly love Penn. Did you read through this forum? Did you try to inform yourself? You applied to almost every Ivy League school. Sounds like you just wanted to attend an ivy. And now you do.

lol. That was actually my friend (joint account). I started using this account in mid-April. :)

Who’s more relevant here? The one who posts based on facts, data, and actual experience, and doesn’t continually make childish and outlandish generalizations.

Really, those baseless generalizations of yours don’t help anyone, and especially not you. For your sake, I hope that you’re significantly more reasoned–and reasonable–in real life. Or at least that you learn to be so in the future. :)

Wow, your post was SO helpful. Penn must be heavenly.

HafsaRox, in your own words:

“I want these things to be brought out into the open so at least a debate can be started on this.”

Instead of giving childish response, do you have any retort to what 45Percent claims as outlandish generalizations. You can start anywhere; the worst city in the world, worst administration in the Ivy, half of the freshmen want to leave, etc… Please give us your best evidences to all these claims. Let’s do what you said and start the debate.

^ Some of those things are impossible to quantify, but they’re true. I go to this school. I love this school. I am a part of this school. Are you? No, so please stop commenting like you are.

HA! I’d hate to see what you’d say about a school you hated.

Talk about cognitive dissonance!

I think it is ok to say that you prefer not to offer any more comments in support of your arguments but telling other people to stop posting in a public forum is really not in good form. Again, this is after you basically ask people to freely debate the issues you put forth if you still remember what you posted.

This is so hilarious! I don’t think anyone is “hating”- everyone will have a different experience- and nobody should extrapolate much from any one person. As someone that has experienced Penn for 3 years, I would say that most students are happy but there are a few that seem to get lost in the mix (its a fairly big university) since there isn’t really as much personal support unless you actively reach out for it.

Food quality is good overall (not as good as Cornell, but good), off-campus housing isn’t too expensive and you can easily find a room with other students for as little as $500/m (although expect run-down old buildings). I’m not familiar with anything Wharton- but if you’re not a student of the school, they tend to be very inclusive with their programs/activities.
