I Need Some Safeties...

I've already gotten my reaches and matches straigtened out, I just need suggestions for safeties.

My Preferences:
- Located in the East, ideally in the Southeast
- Not huge (Less than 15-18k people)
- Solid economics program
- Liberal arts focused academics (Not necessarily a liberal arts college)

My Stats (Abridged):

Eth: White
Sex: Male
State: NC
Grade: Junior

GPA:
- Unweighted - 3.93 (Will increase to 3.95 at end of year)
- Weighted - 4.64 (Will increase to 4.89 at end of year)

Rank:
10/404

Scores:
SAT: 2110/2400 and 1380/1600
I plan on retaking in either May, June, or next October.

Sports-
School Soccer (9-11) Captain 11th Grade Year
Competitive Soccer (9-11) - Club Soccer
Indoor Soccer (9-11)

I am NOT nearly good enough to play at a DI level, I just really enjoy the sport. (Will probably continue to play inturmurals or club soccer during college.)

EC's:

Beta Club (10-11) - President in 11th grade, hopefully in 12th also
SEAL Club (11)
FCA (11)
Interclub Council (11)

Community Service (Will add on):

Volunteer at least 2 hours a week at the public library. It is in a disadvantaged side of town if that makes any difference. (Exposure to diversity?)

Volunteer for Special Olympics every year

SEAL Club litter pick-ups (Roughly an hour every few weeks)

I have about the same stats as you and would also like to know about some safeties.

Help!

^Yeah I saw your thread, unfortunately I don't know anything either. (Hence the reason I posted this.)

Any help is appreciated!

Aaron, not sure, but what about Tulane and American?

If you mention some schools you like that are matches or reaches, we might better understand what kind of schools you prefer.

Poi: Yeah I've heard good things about both schools. I will have to research those two, thanks for the help!

ivan: I'm not sure how accurate these are, but this is what I put in my "chances thread"

Reaches:
Duke
Brown (Unrealistic, but whatever lol)
Davidson (Top Choice)
University of Chicago

Matches:
UNC-Chapel Hill
Wake Forest
Emory (Not sure though)

well not sure about economics programs, but you might like

Elon U
Clemson U
Pfeiffer University
Randolph-Macon College
College of Charleston

Mind you, I have no knowledge about ANYTHING about ANY of these schools. I simply put some info in a college search. Sorry if it wasn't much help.

Thanks for the info!

I've heard good things about Elon's law school, however I'm unsure of undergraduate studies. According to my friend, College of Charleston has a nice campus so I will have to look into that.

Elon's an interesting case, for sure. Not so sure about their law school unless one intends to practice in Burlington.

Also, I'd be very cautious calling Wake and Emory "matches." UNC is a slam dunk for you. They're as tough as Davidson.

Possible safes in your area in addition to Elon might include UNC Asheville, High Point U. Furman definitely. Richmond may be a 'tweener for you, too. Rhodes, Millsaps, Hendrix, Sewanee, Berry, Tulsa, Tulane are all safes foryou, imo. Also, Birmingham-Southern would be a safe. Trinity in Texas. Centre in KY.

I know Emory is considered pretty close to Davidson, but I'm pretty sure Wake Forest isn't as hard to get into as Davidson.

My friend actually suggested Furman as a safety to me also. (He has pretty similar stats and that is where he is planning to apply as a safety.)

Thanks for the advice! My teachers tout UNC-Asheville as 2nd to UNC in terms of academics, so I will probably look into that.

Davidson as a top choice and Wake as a match? Yup, your safety is Furman. You're welcome.

Should I have more safeties than just Furman? Or will one be sufficient?

U of Miami?
