As you have seen from the title, I am in need for someone to help put their two cents in on my personal statement. I was trying to make it interesting, but I don’t know how. If you guys could provide some feedback I would really appreciate it! I am trying to transfer as a college freshman to USC, so crossing my fingers. If any of you would like me to read your personal statement as well, I would be happy to reciprocate!
Personal Statement:
I am writing this at home by myself with my dog in my lap pondering my past. I look over and on the table in the common area of my house lies a stack of all of my work from junior and senior year compiled on one another. In high school, I was always the overachiever in my courses, and I made sure to always take advanced classes and to always keep my schedule full. I was not a bad student either as my average grade in these courses tended to be an “A” and on top of that, I always made sure to be involved outside of academics. Because of my course load and my high academic standards, I kept to myself, I had gained the knowledge of how to be organized, timely, and a variety of study techniques to keep me successful.
Moving forward into college, I took these skills with me, but it varied as the courses were far easier. I was getting all A’s and not once did my grades fluctuate. Even with free time and going out, it felt like I did not need to try as much to get an A in the course and this made me feel indifferent as I was so used to setting time away to create color-coded study notes, tutoring my peers, or taking out days in advance to studying for exams. The lack of challenge has made my experience at college dull with the amount of downtime that I have gained from it, and it has lessened my excitement to learn.
Moreover, with my recent passion that I discovered I had for business, it made me really excited to get a head start on it and learn more about my major. Instead, this first term of the class had taught me how to create a resume, how to fill out a planner, and how to create a cover letter. As important as these skill sets are, I had already received extensive schooling on how to each and every one of these throughout my high school and middle school career. I was only eager to know more about marketing, advertising, and entrepreneurship, and was befuddled with what they were teaching us all throughout the term.
Because of this, I have made my decision to research different universities that are known for business which has to lead me to make the decision to transfer.
