questions:
1. where can I get in if I do perfectly at UCSB
2. Would i have a better chance transferring to a better school from Tulane?
3. what do i have to do to transfer
3. I want to go to cornell/ columbia/ NYU/ cal/ ucla/ usc/ yale/ stanford/ or U chicago

what should i do?? please help??!!!

you are totally joking right? u should just not go to ucsb if you dont want to go to ucsb, problem solved.

lol. money is no object. i just need to get into a better school and i would quite frankly rather die that go to cc.

If you do amazing at UCSB, then you can easily transfer because it is easier to transfer rather than applying directly as a freshman to a tough university. But- I do not know how you messed up your GPA in high school, but if it was from partying or getting distracted by other people, you may encounter those same temptations at UCSB. You could transfer after freshman year to a college, but I hear it is easier transferring after sophomore year. I did not do as well in high school, and have now completely made it up in college.

If you know FOR SURE that you are going to UCSB, then you should come to terms with that. It is a good school, there are many opportunities there (not like an Ivy, of course), and you can still excel. I am transferring to USC and know a person coming from UCSB (GreNerd, in case you want to look him up on here). USC, for example, focuses first on performance, then on schooling. If someone is transferring with 30 or more credits (usually at sophomore standing), then the high school record is not looked at, nor are the SATs. BUT, if someone is transferring as a freshman, who do not have 30 credits by the time USC does transfer admissions, then the high school record is looked at as well. Which would be good for you.

As far as school back in the east, such as the Ivys and others, they ALWAYS look at high school record and put an emphasis on the SAT- which with your score is a good thing.

So, what I suggest is that you go to UCSB, deal with the fact that you ARE going there- and EXCEL. Which, you can do if you stay focused and goal oriented and do not let the temptations and distractions negatively affect your grades. Apply for transfer admission after freshman year. See what you get into. If you don’t like it, excel for another year (sophomore) and apply for transfer admission again; which, from my understanding, is much easier.

Mail me if you need any questions or have a response I will probably not be back on this thread. Focus on all the cool things UCSB has to offer! You will get through it! If people can get into Berkley, UCLA, USC, and other great schools from a CC- then how much better will you fare with a four year? If you excel, you can get in anywhere. The popular Ivys like Yale and Harvard, and a school like Standford will be more difficult, but it is feasible.

Good luck!

CaptainRodeo is right. Most ivy leagues (Yale, Columbia) and other schools (U Chicago, Stanford, NYU) will still heavily look on your high school performance and SAT’s taken. As far as UCLA and UC Berkeley go, California community college students get highest priority into transferring to those universities compared to UC to UC transfers. Also the UC’s don’t look at the HS GPA and SAT’s taken when it comes to transfer admissions. For USC it really depends on how many USC transferrable units you have like CR said, so you can be eligble to not have your HS past looked heavily upon for transfer admissions.

If you believe you can be able to get a really good GPA at UCSB and do other extracurriculars to show you’ve changed then you have great chances into transferring to those prestigious colleges. Just be cautious of the temptations of the UCSB party life.

Last time I heard was that Harvard doesn’t accept transfers anymore.

OMG CaptainRodeo! MARRY ME!!! I LOVE YOU!!! thanks so much! lol- i go to a ****ty public school and my less than brilliant college counselor hasn’t been as helpful in four years as you were in one collegeconfidential post!! <3!!!
and MakeBank- thats a terrific name… and its true about the Harvard thing- oh well.
THANK YOU!!

would Tulane or UCSB be a better option?

It really all depends on which major you are doing and how you have a feel of the universities.

Personally in my opinion I’d go with Tulane because it’s well recoginized and it goes through semester not quarter.

i want to transfer to stanford (lol) as a psych or neuroscience major

Well, I decided to come back on here and see if you found out what to do. Glad I could help. As far as UCSB or Tulane goes, if you have the time ( I don’t know where you live) and you know for certain it is between those two schools, perhaps you can visit them. But, as MakeBank said, look at the schools that are strong at each university. Which one has a better psychology department or has a better neuroscience program? But, you will be LIVING there, so, it may be wise to visit and see what the atmosphere is like, the people, what the buildings look like, the surrounding city, etc… All those things come into play as well.

Everything is going to work out properly, it always does in the end!
