I need to improve by what seems like a million points

Hi everyone! I’m currently a sophomore and I’m highly interested in going to UPenn’s Wharton school and I want to apply early decision when it’s time. I’m stressing out because I currently received my PSAT 10 score which is an 1100 and I’m worried I’m not going to bring it up enough to the school’s average. I really hate the SAT style because of it’s unclear wording of questions so I’m going to take the ACT, however I’m not finishing sections of the SAT in time and I know the ACT is harder with relation to time. Can someone give me advice?

Yes, try the ACT before you rule it out. My kid had the same perception about the pace of the test but when she tried it, she did substantially better than on the SAT. It is fast-paced but the questions are also more straightforward.

D1 did much better on the SAT than the ACT and D2 did MUCH better on the ACT than the ACT. Also, if you are a sophmore understand that you will have an entire year of extra class work to help you achieve. Take full advantage of all the study resources available. Kahn academy has goof free SAT materials online.

I also want to take a moment to warn you against deciding this early in the game on a specific dream school. Even if you raised your SAT score into the high 1500’s you would still have only a minuscule chance of acceptance. Kids with perfect stats and scores are rejected all the time. Focus instead on doing the best that you can in school and in your extra curriculars and then building a realistic list of colleges that can help you achieve what you want in life.
