I am a Nigerian after a lot of search i stumble on this forum site.

Please i'll appreciate if anybody can give me true and practical information about universities in Europe and possibly other part of the (West) inclusive of Canada. i also will appreciate the cheapest universities. i am an undergraduate prospective student not a Masters student Thanks.

Anything in particular that you’d like to know?

A few general guidelines: European public universities generally teach undergraduate degrees in the native language of the country. The only exception I know are a few Dutch universities (e.g. the University of Amsterdam) that teach in English, but they charge significant fees to non-EU students. Public universities in the non-English-speaking part of Europe tend to be much cheaper than universities in English-speaking countries. For example, German and French universities normally charge foreign students less than 200 Euros per semester. British universities, in contrast, frequently charge 10,000 to 20,000 pounds.

Your foreign high school credential may not qualify you to study at a European public university. For example, Germany does not recognize the West African Senior School Certificate. Applicants with this credential would need to complete a pre-university foundation year in Germany or attend a university in another country for one year, before they may enroll at a German university.

Bachelor’s degrees in Europe are normally 3-year programs and focus entirely on your chosen specialty. (Unlike American Bachelor’s degrees, for example, which are 4-year programs and have a general education component.) Access to popular majors (like medicine) may be restricted for foreign students.
