I am currently a sophomore and have had a horrible half semester and my parents believe football is the reason. I love football but Im starting to believe that it is one of the factors in my recent grade decline. I also realize that after Christmas break I will have to commit more time to football then I did this half semester. Basically my question is should I drop football even though its something I love.

Do you see yourself being recruited? I went to spring practices last year, and wasn’t that good. maybe because I was so tired since I was going to twice as many practices as everyone else since they kept switching me from guard to tight end to fullback (I’m 6 foot 180, what were they thinking haha.) to defensive end to linebacker when I quit. I personally didnt love it enough for the time commitment it entailed but if you do I wouldn’t give it up just for grades.

Depends. Are you not studying? Slacking on the homework? Do you get enough sleep? Also how do you commit “more” time off season??? I seen guy going to workout after break but I don’t see extra time. Also what are your college choices? Are you looking at state flagship or a higher intuition?

@goodnoodle
I doubt I would get recruited. Im a WR right now. I love the game but I feel like the love of the game has decreased in the last couple years.
@Descuff
Im slacking right now but whenever I get home Im tired. I get a decent amount of sleep. The more time commit I am talking about is when we get back from winter break we start after school workouts then from there we go to boot camp and then to spring football. I really like George Washington University, The University of Maryland, American, Georgetown and a few others.

I wouldn’t get rid of football if you love it. It like getting rid of video games for me lol. Now I see what you mean about more time. Well, uh I know a guy that played football all four years and manage to keep his grades high. Well really you need to have effective time management. Do you try doing your homework during breaks and lunch? Since you’re tired from home all day can’t you say leave practice early on some days when you have loads of hw?

^What Descuff said

Descuff that’s a good suggestion but you may not know much about high school sports. That stuff is taken seriously (believe me, 7 varsity letters between basketball and baseball). I doubt cowboy would be permitted to leave whenever he has too much homework. Unless he’s really, really good, most coaches won’t put up with that stuff.

Maybe this is just my personal experience, but if i asked my basketball coach to go home early 4 out of the 5 days of the week he’d laugh before promptly kicking me off the team.

You first should get to the bottom of the reason why you grades slipped look at all the factors football slacking etc. once you do that you need to analyze your future is football something you wish to pursue as a career etc. because If not your sophomore and junior year are the most important years gpa wise I messed up my sophomore year and I really regret it now that I’m a senior applying to college. Can’t make the decision for you just look into you heart and think about where you want to see yourself in 3 years because once the time is gone you can’t go back and unless you fail a class you can’t make up grades

@efeens: well idk what to say. If the coaches aren’t gonna let you go then you will get worse grades (if the OP is getting bad grade…) and eventually be kicked off of football…

Cowboy talk with your coach about this first

When I was in AP Chem and struggling, I talked with my track coach and we worked stuff out. Although I had to sacrifice getting picked for meets, I was able to make A’s on the tests and do well in the class. Heck, I even enjoyed it.

Also when it came to track, I just got back in gear after getting my grades sorted out.

Hope this helps!
