OK, I just need to know if NYU Stern (undergrad business) is worth my time applying to, based on what I read it's very hard to get into.

I'm only putting up basic stats, please give me a rough estimate as to whether or not theres a possibility or if it's even worth my time.

SAT I: 2170 (700 M 740 CR)

SAT II: Bio- 710 Math II - 700

AP Chem - 4 AP Bio - 3 (didn't take a bio class, just the test, knew a fair bit from reading on my own)

My GPA is my weakpoint, UW: 3.68 W: 3.9

ECs are ok, science/math oriented, math team/ robotics team etc.

Recs are decent - well liked student

So, if you open this thread, just leave a one word chance evaluation if you can, its GREATLY appreciated (last 3 threads i made on the forum weren't even answered).

disappointing, but thanks for the response, any that would be recommended instead that are still equal or relatively close to the rep of stern?

can you elaborate on your EC's?

sure,

My best EC is the Robotics team (FIRST), 3 people are in charge of the 25 people that are in it, I'm one of those 3 and the lead mechanical engineer and I take care of some of the financial stuff like sponsorship and donations. I've been in it since freshman year, my friend who is now in college started the team, me and my other friends took over once he left.

Second EC is Varsity Math team, I do good in it, but I don't really like it that much.

Third EC is the Community Service Club where I have about 140 hours of service over 2 yrs (soph & junior).

I also owned an online business, earned about 200 dollars profit, I invested it in having someone design a set of Proxy sites (sites kids use to surf the web in school), I promoted it and got an extra 100 dollars on top of the 200 I invested, I sold it for another 130. I then took that and invested the money in thr stock market, which I follow everyday now. I now have about $1000 in stocks, I had more but frickin' Take Two (the game company behind GTA) tumbled. It's not really an EC, but a side hobby of mine I guess.

Your first EC is ok, but I would say to show your passion for it in your essays and show how it inspires/changes you as a scholar and person. Your second two are clearly fluff, but also important to put on your application if not in the essays.

OK, I was choosing between business/managment and engineering, two different horses I know, but I like 'em both.

I guess finance isn't for me since the top uni's probably won't let me in (since getting a good job is my top priority).

Anyways, thanks for the advice, any other schools you'd recommend that'd fit the bill for a reputed business school?

^University of Washington at St. Louis is a good one. I THINK it's business. I'm not sure.

It's reputed to be one of the 'new Ivies'.

Would I be better off getting a Chem Eng. degree from Rensselaer Poly Tech, doing good and then applying for a MBA or general managment degree from Stern?

I Know a WAMC thread isn't a place for career advice, but I just want to know it'd be any sort of advantage or if I should just focus on a managment/finance degree instead of a engineering degree as well.
