ive been playing for many years now and i was wondering if playing a sport holds as much weight as say - participating in a science olympiad (which i also do) ? also, for anyone is an MIT student now who plays a sport, is the recruiting process like most other D3 schools where i can contact the coach set up a meeting etc.? Or must i make the admission academically first then become eligible for the team?

Consider posting questions and sharing info in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1415931-mit-athletic-recruits.html

If you are interested in playing a sport at the college level/MIT, go to the MIT athletics website. There is a form to fill out for your sport that gets submitted to the MIT coach. If they are interested, they will contact you for more information (like your transcript) and possibly invite you to visit. I think if the coach is interested, they will send your materials to admissions to see if you pass the bar in that way, but it’s not like recruiting elsewhere. Nevertheless, it certainly can’t hurt.
