#$%&! I re-read my supplement essay for one of my top schools and...

So, I re-read one of my supplements, and I realized that I made a few careless errors.

Noting huge or blatant, but this is a very competitive school and I really don't have a great shot, so my essays really had to be great.

One pharse I used was "like man that lived".

what I should have said was : like the man that...

The other mistake I found wasn't that bad, the sentence structure just sounded funny and technically wrong.

Other than that, I thought my essay was pretty good and great content wise.

I know they won't flat out reject me because of this, but how much will this hurt?

Oh well, whatever happens, happens. Am I freaking out, lol?

Two things to keep in mind. First, when people read things, they many times fill in missing articles in their minds. It may not even be noticed. In general, essay readers need to get through hundreds of these, and are not so much in “proofreader” mode as you might think - unless something glaring pops out (or it’s one of the reader’s trigger items, like using “there” for “their” or “your” for “you’re” or “it’s” for “its”).

Second, no creative work is perfect. Take a look at a movie “bloopers” site and see all the mistakes that have been made. One example is one of my favorite movies, Jurassic Park. I was astonished at the number of really glaring errors in the final product, and I had seen the movie many times. But directors move on from a film, looking forward rather than second-guessing the past ones. You should also forget it, worrying about the future instead of revisiting the past.

But even if you do worry, don’t. It’s not a mistake worth worrying about.

haha its okay! chill:)
how about i accidentally sent in my draft instead of my polished final version

haha, ok thanks guys.

Still not happy about what I did or didn’t do well enough (lol proofread).

I proofed it, read it aloud a couple of times and just bleeped over the missing word.

Oh well, hope things work out for you amber.

Thanks again

Haha i have the exact same inquiry.
On my CommonApp essay, i left out a period.

And on one essay that i used for at least 7 competitive schools, I accidentally put duplicate sentences. Like…the exactly same ones…:[[[[
“I spent the summer collecting data and testing products. I spent the summer collecting data and testing products. I would …”

Ah…i was so devastated!!

^ well maybe they’ll give you credit for being dedicated to errr… “testing products.” :D
