Do you know if they are doing anything to alleviate this problem such as building new dorms? Otherwise, this school sounds like it might be a nice fit for my D. Thanks in advance.
The new dorm construction they are doing now is for senior housing. Freshmen housing is on south campus and I have not heard of any additional construction projects there. My son is in a triple and I was honestly thinking it would ridiculously cramped, but they have the room configured in a way where it does not seem so bad. He had an opportunity to move to a double and declined. He loves his dorm and really enjoys his roommates. Best of luck to your daughter.
I am a current Villanova freshman and no, they are doing nothing to alleviate it. Myself and many of my friends were originally in triples, had horrible roommate experiences, and had to switch rooms for the 2nd semester. Overall, their housing process is terrible.

@bsmithsonian Thank you. Good to know. How do you like your school, otherwise?
Honestly, I am applying to transfer next year. The school consists of primarily white, wealthy students with no care for anything/anyone other than themselves. Though the school preaches “community”, there is no sense of that here whatsoever.
Thank you for your response!
I’ve been a causal reader of this thread for a while but bsmithsonian’s comments are so unfounded I had to make an account and set the story straight. In regards to the tripling, yes it is a tight squeeze but after the first week you barely notice. A lot of students don’t mind an extra roommate as it provides for more opportunities to make friends and socialize. Villanova’s new housing will fully eliminate triples in the fall of 2019.
The latest comment about lack of community is perhaps the most unfounded. If he or she doesn’t feel a part of the community then that is truly unfortunate. But there is an undeniable sense of family when walking around campus and seeing how students act towards one and other, aside from a few bad apples. Our recent success in sports and academics has only promoted this community spirit. And while Villanova is predominately White and Catholic, it has made enormous efforts recently to diversify, with each incoming class being more diverse than the last.
Ultimately, I hope you take negative comments like that with a grain of salt. Villanova has meant so much to me and many other fellow students and it is truly unfortunate to see a student with whom our community didn’t connect with try to spread a false narrative. I hope you and your daughter visit firsthand and gauge for yourself which portrayal is accurate.
The choice will be clear.
@LibertarianArts Thank you! Can you say more about the new housing? Villanova sounds like a school my D might like (we’re visiting very soon), but I was just concerned about the triples.
The new housing is scheduled to open in the fall of 2019. It is expected house mainly seniors and some juniors in apartment style living. There will be student-centered retail in the complex including a bar, gym, dining location and clothing store.
Your concern about triples is very reasonable, I remember it being my biggest one about Villanova. Looking back now, the year goes by so quick and the extra roommate hardly makes a difference, especially if you hit it off with them. Ultimately you only live in a triple for two semesters and it is an experience that is as good or as bad as you make it.
Thanks so much @LibertarianArts We look forward to seeing the school.
Thanks @LibertarianArts . My son met a number of recent grads at a recent welcome reception for admitted students. He was really impressed by their friendliness and love for the school. We visited Villanova last year and felt that vibe while we walked around campus, which is what led my son to feel that the school would be a great fit for him (if he got in, which he did!). Triples are what they are, and there are many who we have spoken with and many posters here who didn’t mind it. My son is really easygoing so I can’t imagine he would care so long as he and his roommates get along alright. My plan is get there as early in the AM as possible on move-in day so we have first choice of beds!
@psssthoy Typically schools assign each student a bed so there is no fighting amongst roommates. That would be a bad way to start the year.
@CopperlineX2 Yes that would be unfortunate. My son heard at a welcome reception that Stanford is the most social of the dorms, i.e., lots of students, doors left open, etc. Is that the general perception?
My son is in Caughlin and they did not assign beds. It was first come, first served. He had the last move in time of his roommates so he got what was left, but everyone was gracious and helpful and there were/are no issues. He also said Stanford was the most ‘social’. HA He had the opportunity to move out of a triple and into a double there and chose to stay in his current room. He was blessed with awesome roommates. Best of luck to your son, @psssthoy! I hope he loves it as much as my DS does!
@phxcactus Thanks. I don’t want to completely overthink this process, but I was just curious. My son is just excited to go to Villanova!
My son is as well @psssthoy. He filled out the housing form last night at 11:00 p.m. CST. I just hope his Texas blood can get accustomed to those winters…I guess if I could do it, he can! Go 'Cats!
Go Cats!
I am currently a freshman and as one of my professors is the assistant dean of students I can say for sure that the “senior” housing is partially being built to eliminate the forced triples. The plan is that juniors live in those new apartments as well as west, then sophomores move to west more, and freshman will be able to live on main. this will not take effect until 2019 however. Just a side note I laughed out loud when I heard Stanford was “social”. It is the one building that no one wants to spend time in as it is not a really open environment. The other dorms on South form such tight knit communities where people do leave doors open and you will become friendly with everyone on your floor. The triple is not as bad as you would think and the best door by far is St. Monica hall for the leadership LLC students
@CSCisLife Thank you. So are you saying that there will be fewer triples in 2019? How are you enjoying Villanova so far? Do you find it to be a friendly environment? Is the work manageable or overwhelming? What do freshman do on the weekends? Thanks again!!!
