Triple or Double? Question for Current Parents and Students.

My son was accepted RD and I have a question. The website states that they can’t accommodate requests for a single roommate but you can request two roommates as long as all three requests are mutual. We paid our deposit yesterday so I am wondering if we are early (lucky) enough to be placed in a double. It’s obviously very nice to try to match with a roommate based on major/interests but wondering if he’d be losing out on a spot for a double if he seeks out and requests 2 roommates?

I was put into a triple with 2 people who had requested eachother and were expecting to be placed in a double. In my year more guys accepted their acceptance to Villanova than I think were expected so they had to triple a lot more. I don’t know what the situation is for this year in terms of people choosing to go here, but you could choose two roommates and guarantee knowing both them, or just choose one and maybe getting a double, but also taking the chance of being in a triple not knowing the third roommate.

For me being in a triple with two roommates who didn’t expect for me to be there worked out fine for me. I got along with them well and am choosing to live with one next year in a guaranteed double. From what I’ve seen around campus triple rooms tend to be bigger than doubles so size isn’t an issue

@Pugli5i Do you remember when you put your deposit down? Hoping we got in in fast enough to get a double. I have read and heard that triples are the same size as doubles. You think they’re larger?

My daughter put in her deposit on March 31 last year, and she got a double in Stanford.

@Squirg That’s encouraging, thank you.

@VillanovaMom my son was accepted last year and we paid the deposit the next day. He is currently in a double in Stanford now. I know his friend waited several weeks and wound up being placed in a triple in McGuire. At Villanova, the earlier you deposit the better it is. Congrats! Welcome to the Nova family! Go cats! \V/

@Pugli5i @Squirg @pkchamp89 If you do get a double are the beds lofted or able to be lofted for storage underneath or even placing your desk under?

Can you request one roommate and then get a random third one?

@VillanovaMom The beds are “lofted” in Stanford. There is plenty of room for storage underneath the bed. They are not lofted high enough to place a desk underneath in Stanford. But, in McGuire, where a lot of rooms are tripled, the desk can fit underneath one bed. Only one bed is lofted. The other two beds are bunk bed style. It’s the only way to get three beds into the room. There are two built in closets that have to be shared by 3 people in the McGuire room.

@a20171 You can request a roommate but you both must put each other down at the time you sign up for housing otherwise it won’t happen. Res Life can put a random third person in the room. Going in as a double with roommates doesn’t guarantee no third roommate.

@VillanovaMom My daughter’s bed is slightly elevated-- she needs a small step stool to get in-- and she has six plastic dresser drawers (I think in two columns of three) underneath as well as a lot of other junk.
