Hi everyone! This is my first ever post! I applied to both LAMDA and RADA summer courses and got into both!! It is so hard to choose between the two!! Has anyone done the courses before or has visited the schools and knows the differences between them? Any insight is more than welcome
@bowdy26, congrats! Which courses did you get accepted in? Both RADA and LAMDA each have several different summer courses. That would help in giving advice. But the overall answer is you canāt go wrong with either
My son did two weeks at RADA last summer and absolutely loved it. Heās even considering going back this summer to pick up a class that he was interested in last year but didnāt take. He highly recommends the program.
Ok, sorry, I missed the word āShakespeareā in the thread title. My son took Musical Theater and Devising Theater, the Shakespeare course is the one heās considering going back for this year. But he loved the instructors, the way the classes were taught, the other students - everything. And the location is great, itās just a few blocks from the British Museum.
Oh I missed that in the title too!
Well my S goes to LAMDA in their BA program, and my D goes to LAMDA in the MA for Classical Acting program so Iām biased!
Of course, both programs are excellent. Their Shakespeare training is amazing. You could ask each school what approaches they use in the summer training; I think theyāre both the same, but there may be differences, and that perhaps may help you decide.
But since theyāre both top notch, if I had to decide, I guess Iād go by other factors: Cost, housing costs in the area, any vibe you might get.
Itās best to live close by the school as the tube is very expensive and time consuming. (Both my kids are within walking distance to LAMDA, although theyāre in different neighborhoods.) Iād look for housing costs in the areas and compare the two to see if there are any differences. Also, RADA is in Central London and has a more ādowntownā feel, as @heliobike says, close to the British Museum etc. LAMDA is in the Hammersmith/Fulham/Barons Court area, and has perhaps a more āsmaller cityā feel (at least to me); itās fairly close to the Thames with really scenic walks.
