Rada

Does anyone have any information on the summer "Acting Shakespeare" program at RADA? My daughter auditioned in NYC this morning and was accepted on the spot into the program. I'm just trying to find out as much about it as I can, since it is a very expensive proposition.

What's RADA?

I don't know about this summer program but congratulations to your D, Lynn, on this acceptance! Since the school is well regarded during the year, I would think the summer program might be good too. Couldn't she just study abroad during the school year or does she not want to miss any semesters at her program? She will be lucky to attend a summer program abroad!

JIJane may have some info on this one.

RADA: Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts.

My D has a friend in HS, who attended a summer program at RADA a couple of years ago, and really enjoyed it. This girl is quite talented and has had a great audition season thusfar (acting). D also has another (guy) friend, who attended RADA, and was later accepted at Tisch. Both have nothing but good things to say about it. I am not sure exactly which RADA program they participated in however (there are quite a few options), but I don't think you can go wrong here.

I have a friend who attended it and said it was very good and I also live with someone who actually teaches the RADA summer school, so have seen schedules, timetables, etc. It is a good course, however it is SOOO costly to a ridiculous degree. I think there are other equally good summer schools at drama schools in London that can be an equally good experience for less cost. Oh, and attending the RADA summer school gives you no bonus points in regards to auditioning for the full time programme - although it may increase your confidence of course knowing the place. My advice would be - apply to some other London summer courses and see where else you are accepted/what the difference is in price etc and then make a decision. My book lists all available UK drama school summer courses for all ages in a chapter of its own. :) (So you want to tread the boards).

Thanks guys! Susan - there's no study abroad option at BoCo. There are a bunch of different summer programs at RADA. Some are for high schoolers and I don't think they are audition based. This one is for "the professional". I guess that means someone in college or already pursuing a career in the arts. The money factor is crazy, so we'll have to weigh our options, but I'm glad I haven't heard anything BAD about the program itself. Thanks again everyone.

CONGRATS! I don't have personal experience of the program but RADA is fantastic training, and also I read about that program on their website and it says they only accept actors with a certain level of professionalism/experience, so your D must have really impressed them! I'd say go for it even if it's expensive, it'll be an amazing experience. I wouldn't recommend doing it INSTEAD of a degree program there, but if your D is pursuing a degree somewhere else anyway, I think it'd be great.
