Would someone PLEASE give me some advice on this one. I think I messed up pretty badly. George Washington is my dream school, and I spent three weeks working on my essay, trying to prefect it as best as I could. I got various opinions from professors on what I needed to change and things of that nature. The deadline for GWU is April 1 (transfer students), however, EVERYONE has been stressing that I really need to submit it A LOT earlier than that date, including the staff over at GWU. Last week I made the decision that Ill be submitting everything on Friday. Well, that week was pretty hectic, I was busy, and so were my professors. That meant I needed to make the final decisions myself. I sent in the application. They sent me a copy of the submitted application and everything was fine! Except the last sentence in my Why GWU essay has a BIG typo. I wrote something to the effect of and not only would GWU be an honor. Thats it. I forgot two or three more words that I had intended to put in. So, now what? How significant will this blemish my application? What should I do? Im in DEEP panic mode at this point. I REALLY want to attend The Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, its a dream of mine. And now I feel that that little stupid mistake is going to be the end of that dream.

Send a revised copy as quick as possible with a short note explaining your situation. They probably will not even look at your old essay for a long while.

Not a crisis. Don't worry about it. Send the revision and don't worry about it at all.

Just send them a new copy with a note explaining the typo. It won't make any difference...everyone makes mistakes while typing...as long as you fix it (especially six weeks before the deadline) no one will care.

Just as a side note, whats the deal with the need to apply so far before the deadline? Who said you needed to and why? Is GW rolling admission or something?

I did the same for an essay except i had about 3 typos where it was like a repeated word, a misspelling and a missed word. so three different types of mistakes. don't worry about it, you're human and surely they won't overlook your great work and overall great appplication for something silly. but, if it makes you feel better, send in a revision like the above people mentioned. best of luck!!! don't worry i can be super neurotic about things too. until i get an answer, i don't think i'll stop!

I'm the most neurotic person ever - I worry about the smallest things. The fact that I have OCD doesn't help.

Well, GWU said that though they don't do rolling admissions, the faster you send in the application, the faster they look at it and make a deicision...though you won't find out till the date everyone else does. Sounds weird, eh? I think it just shows them that you really do want to get in, ya know?

True. I don't have OCD but I physically manifest my stress. Not pretty sometimes, lol.

Indeed. I shall send them the revised version, along with an explaination. BTW, does anyone know whether or not a 3.6 is sufficiant enough for the Elliott School of International Affairs?

Also, breath.

I reckon you're probably panicking a lot about this. Just do what Caillebotte said and just breath. Everything should be alright.

a 3.6 should be fine. i'm at GWU right now and know many ESIA kids who were admitted as internal transfers with a GPA in the 3.0-3.5 range. in fact, i'm in the honors program here and you only need a 3.4 gpa for that.

Well, that makes me a lot more confident.
