i really need help deciding between these schools. I've heard so many bad things im a bit shaken up.

hey, i have some questions about macaulay and city college. I'm really concerned i've seen some horrible reviews about city. The complaints about the professors don't bother me so much because I know that's a matter of choosing the right ones and using ratemyproffessor etc. etc. However i'm worried that even through macaulay i won't be getting the level of education i can be getting. I hope to major in biomedical engineering while on the premed track. any advice or opinions on city?

also..
is housing guaranteed for all four years. I have certain family issues and i will be able to pull up housing costs for the first year but i hope to become an RA for the other three. Is this at all a possibility?

oh and my other options are Hofstra, Iona, and Fordham (got accepted to these)

i applied to RPI, Stony Brook, NYU, Columbia, and UNC Chapel Hill

money not being an option i would probably choose NYU or macaulay since columbia would be too much of a jump from my high school's level. What worries me most about the CUNY's is the lack of campus life due to most everybody commuting. i know stony brook doesn't have much of a campus life either and RPI is in the middle of nowhere. But let's say money wasn't a factor since i don't know how much aid I would be getting yet. Is city really as bad as people say it is?

why would you want to attend school in NYC?
over the next couple years it is going to very quickly spiral back to it’s low points it was in from the late 60’s to the early 90’s. and besides everyone (IMO) should spend their undergraduate time on a college campus not in the middle of a city.
UNC Chapel Hill is a big school that also offers that. some school in thte state if you need to be in ny

http://www.syr.edu/

What is your home state???

NY

I think you should wait to get all your offers and see what the money situation is going to be. Have your receive any aid packages yet?

It is not realistic to plan on being an RA and get housing covered. Those positions are usually in very high demand , for few spots, and take a lot of time and energy. I don’t know if you have guaranteed housing, I doubt it, look at the website or info they send you.

@zobroward: Um, wut?

Where did you pick up the ability to magically foresee NYC’s future?

I do not need magic. I can all but assure you that nyc is going to spiral down very quickly. get back to me in 6 months, a year and 2-3 years. and I will be able to say I was right. it is no longer just reading the writing on the walls, it has begun.

I think this is really off topic and distracting to OP’s question. Stick to the topic. OP in NY res looking at this particular college among other instate choices.

@brownparent yeah i know it’s not realistic but i mean if i don’t become an RA ill have the option of commuting ofc. or if i could somehow convince my father. and yeah the plan was to wait for my acceptances then choose and make my case to my dad. I just need some reassurance because the things i read about city college really scared me.
