I really want to go to Berkeley or Davis or ucsb . Majoring comm/ media studies

Ok, well here’s thing, you do have a shot at Berkeley with a 3.2, but I would say like a 15% chance. No harm in trying and applying, but don’t get your hopes up and have them crushed later on. In other words, don’t expect an acceptance. Not trying to be mean here, just know your chances.

If you don’t want to go to Merced, then I would try to apply to TAG for UCSB, as it’s your only option other than Merced. Both Riverside and UCSC require that you have at least a 3.0 when you submit your TAG application.

UCSB will see your GPA after Fall when you update your general UC application in January. Only then will they evaluate you for TAG. They will not tell you if you have been approved or not.

Don’t worry if you don’t get to a 3.2 though, even with a 3.0, you will still probably be accepted UCSC and/or Riverside.

You need to ask yourself a real serious question. Are you truly able to pull straight A’s taking 6 classes? Just honestly does that sound something you will be capable of?

Unless you are willing stay an extra year at your CC taking classes, strictly to raise your GPA, I would abandon all hope of attending Berkeley.

I really don’t want to stay for the third year at my CC. I know most of my friends at the CC did that. Staying another year would be my worst choice/option if i don’t get into Berkeley…or UCD and UCSB… =(((
I’ve been dying to go to Berkeley -_-. It’s been my first choice for UC.
I should have realized how low my GPA was and was below the line of 3.0 last semester. I only started trying really hard over this summer… And I just found out I can’t even apply tag for Davis which upsets me so much.

@LAforlife and thank you so much for responding me. It’s okay to tell me the truth of my chances to Berkeley =( it’s good to know what i don’t want to hear, and be prepared for not being accepted…

@UCBhopeful16 Looking at all my classes for this semester, i’m just worried about Econ 1 (PRIN OF MACROECONOMICS) this class/professor is the hardest, and i’m hella scared.
But other classes don’t seem very difficult. only econ will make me work my butt off everyday to get a good grade…!
I can only get one B iand all As n all my classes to get 3.2 of GPA.
i’m pretty sure if I keep studying very hard, keep track of everything in all my classes, go to teacher’s office hours and forget about going out and hanging out with friends, i can get the As i want…

Just know that pre-req classes are somewhat harder than the regular GE classes so if most of your classes are pre-reqs get ready to work your butt off. You’re taking a huge risk if you’re going to be working which may take time away from the studies but only you know. I’m on the same boat as you though, TAGing to UCSB this fall hopefully I get accepted.

@insurance11 yes… what is your gpa?? Where else are you applying?? I work 8 hours a week and they’re all on Fridays and sats…so i hope that shouldn’t be so bad! I think i got this semester. If i have exams coming up i can always ask for day off from work!

Thank you guys…

O if you only have to work on the weekends then you’re probably fine. Currently I have a 3.24 but if I get all A’s (which I most likely will cause my classes seem like jokes) then I will get around a 3.5. I’m from NorCal so it should be interesting to see if they accept me. The other UCs I’m applying to without TAG is Davis and LA. I’m applying to SDSU which is my number 1 besides UCSB and then Cal Poly Slo and then Chico and that’s all I have right now

im in a similar situation as you op, but my gpa is not as bad. I have a high number of units though so I am taking 16 units that I have to get A’s in to get a 3.2. I looked on ratemyprofessor.com for classes that are supposedly easy A’s and also registered for a beginning language class for its high units and relative easiness. I have taken 18 units before and I believe it is very possible to get all A’s, you’ll just work your ass off.

@jmvukovish 24@insurance11
yeah same with my classes this semester, they seem very easy as long as i just do the work EXCEPT for ECON1. My instructor makes that class very hard. I think i will be spending all my time in that class. It’s like impossible to get an A…

I can only get one B and all As to get the 3.2 gpa, but i’m aiming for all As no matter what !!
yeah i will just make myself study all the time and not have a social life, that’s for sure.
I need to find some time to start my personal essay soon too :S, and get it checked multiple times…

@Sunburst Well, I must admit that i didn’t work very hard last semester. I only got one 1 A and one C and Bs in all my 5 classes.
I procrastinated a lot.
I didn’t commit all my time to school work, that’s why I didn’t get the As. It’s a I should have worked harder and payed more attention to my instructors’ policies that would effect my grades thing. I should have talked to my instructor but i didn’t.
I’m not gonna procrastinate this semester because I want to be accepted and get the higher GPA.
I’m so sure if i have worked hard and spent my entire time to the work, I could have gotten the grade I needed.

I do go on to ratemyprofessor.com and read their reviews for some advises and help get an idea how the professors grade and teach.
I also ask around my friends about the professors for my classes. People would tell me how they are, if they’re easy or hard and recommend me to take them, or not … but sometimes i can’t avoid the hard professors, because they’re the only choices to take!

I took french second year in HS. i didn’t even take french 1 and skipped to french 2… and that would not count for 2 years of foreign language though:[.
but besides Enlglish, i speak another language, that is my first language so i guess that’s okay to not have a two years of foreign language courses now. I have to go to Berkeley’s admission for them to verify that I speak the language… So much work…

I’ve already taken the hard classes so these are basically the joke ones. I have a 3.24 because during high school I took some really hard classes and got 2 C’s. I’ve gotten 3.5s both semesters I’ve been here, really not that hard. So do we automatically get in if we just have a 3.2?

^Only if you apply for TAG and meet ALL of the requirements for it (each school has their own).

@Insurance11 yeah! Your GPA meets criteria for the UC’s … all of them require minimum of 3.2 GPA for TAG. For the gpa criteria , you will automatically get in if you have tag with 3.2 gpa. You do have to meet other criteria like completing the required courses and have completed transferable units.
