I rewrote my common app essay and need HELP please

For 7/10 schools I am applying to, I submitted my application with an essay on the common app that was good, but I knew I could pack a bit of a punch. I was terrified of writing about what I knew I really should, my experiences with my alcoholic father, and after talking for the first time about it ever, I was urged to write my paper on what I depicted. I did and shared it with that one trusted individual (who had been revising and helping me with all of my essays) and she thinks that it is perfect and should see if i can contact Barnard’s admissions (my dream school) and see if they would be able to add it to my application instead. Would that be an option? I would state in the email how I was not ready to share my story at the deadline but would really like to share this aspect of my life on my application.

Would they take it? Worst case scenario they will say no and just keep the original, which is pretty good overall.

There’s a saying on here that “the thicker the file the thicker the applicant”. Don’t go out of your way to submit revisions for something you already submitted. It’s likely that Barnard and most schools won’t even take it, and then you just look worse. It also makes you look indecisive, that you couldn’t pick a topic to stick with. Worst case scenario is actually that they don’t take it, and that the above concerns weigh over your application. You can send it, but you probably shouldn’t.

Ok, good to know! I will just add the essay to the remainder of my schools. That makes a lot of sense
