I'm going to take the SAT again around october and hoping for over 2100. (I'm using an online progam by KAPLAN)

My GPA is 3.3 (pretty low) but it is because in my first two years of high school I got mediocre grades, but in Junior year i got straight A's and took extra classes at community college (straight A's too).

so I'm pretty much an "on the rise" student. and my cousin (who's in brown) said that ivy league colleges like that a LOT.

In senior year i'm taking 5 AP classes, and i plan on getting all A's.

Any case, my safety schools are state schools, and my dream schools are private "ivy" schools. am i good enough? (yet?)

Chance threads are pointless, and with stats like that I’m sorry to say you’ll get ostracized by many people here, who consider a 2200 “low”.

I say don’t apply just for the Ivy name, but rather because you’re really passionate about the school. Read far and wide for good fits, then pour your heart into those essays!

I wanted to go to Berkeley (Dream school) but my cousin said most UC’s care only about GPA. Also, Berkeley apparently like African American kids over Asians so… I have a disadvantage?

They don’t look at essays (which is supposed to be my strong point) much… right?

Thats exactly why! The UC system (especially Davis) is planning to discriminate Asians because of the unbalanced proportion of White Americans and Asians.

I hope that isn’t the case, but thats the word around my school.

It’s not that they’re discriminating, they’re just not requiring Subject Tests anymore, which Asians tend to do really good on.

Besides, it’s not really discrimination once again. It just doesn’t make sense for a state that’s 10% Asian to have a 50-70% Asian population in it’s colleges. Public schools are supposed to represent the demographics of the states they serve. So they’re trying to level the playing field I suppose.

You and I seem to be in the same boat, kq.nguyen. The only difference is that I’m African-American…teehee. I hope we both get into the school of our choice. Good luck to us both :D

I would be surprised if you got into an Ivy. I had a 1780 SAT and a 3.1 GPA (with a 4.0 Junior year and a rigorous senior schedule) and I got accepted to:
Emory University’s Oxford College
SUNY Stony Brook
Fordham University
Seattle University
Loyola University of Chicago
Robert Morris University

I would look at those, the entire SUNY system because I hear that they like OOS applicants, and maybe universities ranked 50-100

After three years of high school, you can’t just choose to go to an ivy at the last second. You have had many chances to get you GPA at least to a 3.5 ( 3.7+ is more acceptable) . You should have thought about applying to an ivy league school sooner. Good luck with your college choices though!
